Just recently become the proud owner of 70 westy!!

Lots to do - one of the areas that need attention is the pop top. The fibreglass is starting to show through and a couple of the roof bars on the luggage rack have come loose and the mounting areas that hold the bars have broken. canvas is also shot.

Anyone know how i can restore the roof? does it just need painting or does it need like a gel coat or something??

Where is good for quality canvas's??

Mine got re-spayed Pastel White along with the body. It is however the wrong colour. It should be done with a Gel Coat I believe, although I have been told that a marine paint is very good. It just needs to be a brighter white.

Will the Marine paint take care of the glass fibres that are showing through???
Any idea what Marine paint I need???
Spose I'll have to ask a Boat Builder!?

If the top is so worn that it's looking furry, I'd find yourself a boatyard and let them have a look. They'd be able to restore the actually shell if it's worn and cracking. The problem with glass fibre is that is 'grows' with age.

How easy it will be depends on where you live. In Norfolk there are boatyards aplenty! Between now and the end of summer is best for getting any work done. You'll stand no chance once boats come out of the water in autumn.

ok cool - off to a boat yard then!!must be one round here somewhere ;)
