What are these holes? And cooling?

The one in the middle is for a flexi hose for my heat exchanger correct? This was just blocked off so i can reconnect that.

But the one on the left, what's that for? It's just open like that, do I need to block it off? Will leaving it affect cooling?

The one on the right, again, what is it and do I need to block it off?

Cheers in advance

The one on the left is the warm air feed for the oil bath air filter. There is a piece of tinware that's a tube and points under neath the pushrod tubes and up to that hole, the air filter warm air hose attaches to that.

The one on the right is for the preheat pipe on a standard carb to stop it from icing. Feeds from the exhaust each side up to the carb. If you aren't using a standard air filter or carb they can be blocked off.

Oh and if they aren't being used they will affect cooling as they will allow hot air back into the engine bay

The big one on the left is for the air hose which runs from the air cleaner through the hole and connects onto a tinware spout to collect warm air.

The smaller one on the right is for the heat riser from the exhaust up to the inlet manifold.

These holes are used on a stock engine. Neither of them are used if you are running twin carbs, in which case they should be blocked off.

Aha thank you both.
Should have mentioned I'm running twin carbs so no oil bath filter, also a vintage speed exhaust. I shall block both of them off. The one on the right, I'm guessing I'll have to file down the raised bit first.

Yes you can cut the raised bit off. What I normally do is drill out the two spot welds and it falls off. Then I used the holes to rivet a blanking plate before spraying it satin black. Ends up looking tidy :).

Perfect, will do that today.
Also found why my heating isn't working!
