In the air intakes theres a tube about 6in long with 2 pipes down to above the engine, what are they and do people still have them in use? mine are just cut off can only think they are to do with cooling somehow. :?:

Thanks Mike

Could they be (part of) the petrol tank breather system - the idea being that the fumes are sucked back into the engine and burnt...

I read something about that somewhere

wouldn't of thought so but could be, there is one in each air intake with pipes in and out.

that's exactly what they are, they are to help the fuel vapours condense and be sent as vapour into the air intake, you must have all the breather system working correctly for safety and also to stop petrol smells, the system is not designed to be closed and should be able to breathe so as to not cause a vapour lock i suggest you look at reinstalling it correctly.

yes plenty of people who don't understand the system will do this, particularly if an aftermarket airfilter has been fitted and the pipe isn't used - what should happen if a different airfilter (such as pancake ones on twin carbs etc) is a hole needs to be drilled into the top and the pipe fed into it using a union of some kind, but some people just think it's ok to block them.

Somebody fitted twin carbs so that's probably why mine is like this. thanks for sharing your knowledge :D
