I've a bog stock 1600 twin port in a 71 Westy Cali import
What weight could I pull ie small caravan is 430 kg ok ?
Cheers

To be very honest with you with 50bhp you'll struggle to pull that, it's not just the weight with a full size caravan it's the wind,
it can get bad when your not pulling with a modest side wind
Lot's of peeps on here pull those Eriba Pucks (micro caravans) a few have discovered folding caravan's (Rapido's).
I've tried them all over the last 30 odd years & found nirvanna in a Camp-let Trailer tent, well the Mrs like's it. it goes up in 10 mins with no frame building has two kingsize beds & not depressing to be in unlike some caravans IMO.

They are bloody lovely but blimey not cheap!

 Between £4899 and £6995 for a tent!

OK well my engine is running 34 icts and ported heads but otherwise stock and I tow the daughters drag beetle on a 4 wheel trailer ,50 on most open roads and 60 on duel tracks, quite often get held up by the 40mph wonders that brake for bends you can drive round at 60 just by turning the steering

I used to tow my Puck (450kg) with my 1600sp Westy but it struggled on hills. It got very warm on longer journeys in the summer. I now have a Westy trailer and khyam awning and this is great. (I have also gone for a 1776 running stock carb sump etc)

On the other hand my stock 1600SP pulled a Puck and a familiy of 5 round Cornwall no probs at all, infact I was supprised on how well it all went, only the steepest of hills caused us to slow down but mostly you get stuck behind wangons anyways so I dont worry about it 8)

Yeah they aint cheap stuF got mine in 2006 brand always had other peeps cast-offs reckon i've had my moneys worth from it already their a bit more than a tent though its got a much better cooker & sink than any Bus & beds that are over 2 meters long, seen one last summer that was over 35 years old  so got away to go yet. :D they start getting really expensive with the accessories, sun canopy, spare wheel, fridge box, side storage bars.which I managed to get over the last few years.

I spent a lot of last summer dragging a Rapido Export (unladen 530Kg) plus two adults, three kids, bikes, all that clobber around and it was happy enough around 55 on the dual cabbageways. It's a SP with twin ICTs and flowed heads and pulled nicely. The beauty of those caravans is when they're folded, they're narrower and lower than the van, so don't act as an air brake, just extra weight.
