I think someone needs to start producing some more of the hard to find parts as repos. Early bays seem to have slipped by in this area and parts are alot harder to get than say splittys for instance. Surely its time someone recognized a gap in the market

...any thoughts on what kind of parts you mean ?

..I sense a thread gone awry !

keep the ideas coming ... (can only assume steering boxes would be too expensive to reproduce/recon ??)

The hub caps is the best one! imagine being able to buy one set of hub caps that actually last! result. 8)

i use to work for a certain vw company and they sold recon steering boxes which came via megabug. now im not knocking megabug but some or the boxes were worse than the ones sent back.
there are plenty of people who can rebuild a steering box properly, maybe somewhere like practical classics would be a good place to look.
got to think outside the box no pun intended.

if we could sort an exchange system like SSVC use to do that would help a lot of earlybayers out.

Back on track for you Mr earlybay

SK - would you know whats involved in reconditioning a steering box - Im assuming its quite a specialised job ? (could you do it ?)

sadly not, its normally involves hard chroming any worn items and rebuilding with new seals etc.
its quiet a specilized job and im guessing you would need the right tools.
i cant see it being a problem if you know steering boxes, there must be specialist out there as most cars up till the early 70s ran steering boxes.

although a polish friend did once rebuld his steering box with cardboard shims cut from a cornflake packet! and it got him back to poland!
