Well, I've learnt the hard way that it's wise to carry a spare throttle cable and a clutch cable in the bus! Fuses too, what do you carry when your going on s trip ?

I've got spare dizzy cap, rotor and points, fan belt, a length of fuel hose , assortment of bulbs and fuses, some lengths of wire and assortment of connectors.. Think that's about it. I also have a full set of spanners, feeler gauges, screwdrivers, multimeter, wirecrimps/cutters, leatherman multi tool and various 1/4 and 3/8 drive sockets with ratchets.

Reckon I could fix most things at the side of the road, assuming they don't need new parts, never thought of carrying a clutch or throttle cable..

A mobile phone and the number for Green Flag

But seriously, pretty much what rlepecha carries (a little bit of enverything), plus a jump starter/battery booster, cables are on my list to get and food/drink for the kids just in case we're stranded miles from anywhere.

All of the above and a little more.
I have a three bow roof rack on the rear of my dormy and my wife knows that
only spares are allowed up there and if there's room the barbeque and booze.
This includes at the moment the spare. Soon to be placed internally leaving more room for........

:D :D :D

a spare van!
Sometimes it feels like it.
The usual fuses, bulbs, duck tape, cable ties, dizzy (complete), coil, plugs, alternator pulley wheel just about covers it. Oh, and a decent tool kit.
Of course, it'll be the bit you don't have that breaks down isn't so always take your AA card too, just in case.

Generally - cables, fan belt, a plug, points/condenser, rocker gaskets, zip ties, a few nuts/bolts, a length of wire, insulation tape, some crimp on connectors and oil.

I broke a front damper last year, so at the moment I have a spare pair under the rear seat ... just in case

WD40.

Spare fan pulley recommended? I have heard somewhere on here that they can destroy themselves...?

There was a list posted last year from a workshop that covered spares and tool kit, see here:

I always have the following packed into an old aluminin camera case under the rock n roll bed with my tools.
Spare dizzy with timing marks ready to fit
HT leads
Spark plugs
Fuel pump
Push rod for the fuel pump
Throttle and clutch cables
Fan belt
Bulbs
Various hoses
Various electrical connectors and wire
Various clips and fixings
Spare wheel

anything that my misses will allow me to take!

well, it pays to be prepared!
On our way home yesterday in the Bay from our week away in the Scottish highlands we hear a loud "hissing" noise from the back which disappeared when I put my foot on the clutch so I pulled over into a very convenient lay-by (perfect timing!) and checked the engine to find a half-disintegrated pulley wheel doing it's best to eat the alternator facing

Fortunately, after half an hour or so trying to get the old one off, I replaced it with the spare and away we went!

That's twice in ten years one of these has gone on me so if you can then do take a spare alternator/generator pulley wheel "just in case"
Cheers,
DON
:)
