Hi all,

I'm seriously considering the 1303s gearbox route as may bay is not great at cruising the motorway (50-55 currently and would prefer a more fuel efficient 60-65).

Can anyone help me in where I would find a 1303s gearbox and what code i would need.

I'm going to go for the roadhouseretro kit.

Thanks

one in at the mo... I believe it should be an AT coded box....

try the likes of volksheaven etc....

I see that the gear ratios on Bay and Beetle boxes are pretty much the same, but final drive is 3,875 to 4,375 on Beetles and 5,375 on Bay. I wonder what it does to your engine cooling if you change the final drive ratio that radically.

Is 1303 gear box even easily adaptable to bus? I'm nt sure but isn't Bus box and CV joints much more tough?

Hi there,

there was an article in the most recent VW bus and camper about this, and I was going to combine it with a 1776 engine.

An adaptor kit is available from the US (via Roadhouse Retro here in blighty) to adapt the 1303s irs type box to the early bay. You can use bay CV's joint I think, but new mount, clutch cable and driveshafts.

I think there are some posts on here about it.

I would be keen to hear from anyone else who has done this.

I am looking into getting some conversion kits from a source in the UK.
Depending weather demand is high enough will get mabye 10 kits in. If this looks good i am aiming to get em out at around £230/£250.....

dont' wanna tread on Tims toes but watch this space.
