Thinking of going dual carbs on my new engine. Will be running on petrol for the warranty period so may as well try and get it running as efficiently as possible. I've been looking at twin ICTs from euro carb. Any good or anything better I should think about?

Or I could just check the main jet for now and think about twins later. I guess if I go twins I would probably need a better exhaust as well. Not sure if my credit card can take much more

I would up the main jet for now. Keep an eye on eBay for a used set of twins(tip - try seaching carbs spelt incorrectly), could save you £100's even if you have to order new jets etc for them.

Cheers, I think that's the route I'm heading down. I can't really afford spending more on carbs and exhaust right now after buying the engine. Will give heritage a ring tomorrow and see what they recommend for jet size

Yeah and if heritage can't advise(although I would imagine they can), I believe Gower and Lee are the Solex experts.

Baby dell's are my fave but hard to find for a good price. Ict/ich work well and are plentiful. I Just put a ich kit together for £105 quid all in.

I've got Weber 34 ICTs fitted to my 1641 and it is lurrvely. Still rocking the standard exhaust!

I'm sure I saw someone selling a twin carb set up on here the other night. Thinking it might have been Toffo?

34 ICT's are a good choice, but I would look at getting a set of Dellorto DRLA 36's from Eurocarb or Webber 40 IDF's from us, they tune up about the same but tune much better than the 34 ICT's and also are a better carb. It will actually work out better fuel economy wise to run the larger carbs when cruising on the motorway.

I'm guessing the exhaust hasn't caused any problems then? Just spoken to Heritage but they don't seem able to offer advice on a jet for a 34pict3 at the minute :( They say it needs to be bigger but not what size, contradicts a lot of what I have read on forums.

Did you get yours new? Might have to have a chat with Toffo about them and what jetting they are. Eurocarb send them pre jetted which is appealing

Thanks Alex, might have to price up larger ones as well then. Was hoping to keep the standard for costs reasons for a while but no dice on jet advice :( Don't want to risk the warranty but I can't find out what is acceptable and obviously can't take the van to get tuned without getting it running first

This is only a starting point jet wise, Its always worth doing your 500 mile running in and then taking it to someone to get jetted once you can give it full beans!

Let me ask about stock carb jets, I personally would always run a set of twin's on a 1641cc but our engineer will be able to shed more light on it than me, so give me a min and I'll post again!

So have asked the question and we dont recommend running it on a 34 Pict 3 but it is possible, we dont have any experince of anyone doing that as everyone tends to be running twin carbs, hence why we cant give you an exact Jet size.

I would err on the side of being too rich as that is safe, a lean engine is where you will have trouble. We dont stock a huge range of jets so may be worth asking eurocarb.

If you can find someone that has a gas tester they can tell you by poking the probe in the exhaust how rich or lean it is running.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Alex

Thanks Alex, I guess it might be safe to go twin carbs for now to be on the safe side. An unexpected expense but if I can't find out what would safeguard my warranty without guesswork on the 34pict3 it's probably a necessary one.

if you like working on your bus alot duals are fine but you just want to get in and drive your bus then single is the way to go with bigger jets. you can have a single carb up til around a 2.0 you just don't have top end but how fast do you really want to go in a bus. i had a 68 bus with a 1776 single carb it was amazing because it had a choke and started everytime and i didn't have to work on it at all. just adj. valves and change oil.

Ive got some Dellorto 36's with inlet manifolds and linkages up for grabs as i'm going another route.

The Dells are very good carbs. Once set up you should not have to touch them. No electric choke is not a big problem for me. Use a quality low pressure electric pump (Huco is my recommendation) and a cut off solenoid with an inertia switch and it will be very reliable. Having said all that, you are looking at around £600 for that lot which if you are on a budget or don't see the benefit could be an issue. So a single PICT carb, jetted right can be put together for a few quid ( get the jet files to make your own jets). Yo could even machine the choke/Venturi if you feel brave. This would help it breath a little.
