hi guys, just had a local classic car restorer come and have a look at my van to give me a quote for prep and spray.

i dont know how much it should cost to get this done. he said about 3.5k to 4k which i am prepared to pay if the job is right.

the one main issue is the roof. i was planning on fittting a fistral sliding roof that i bought 2 years ago. the guy was not impressed by the quality of it and said that if he tried to fill it into the roof then the filler would crack :(

i am a bit gutted as i spent quite a lot on that roof and it now leaves me with a decision to make.

do i ;

1. fit the fistral, blend it in and hope it doesnt crack

2. fit the fistral with a rubber seal around it and not bother filling it in.

3. try and source a tintop and joggle it onto the existing roof as i dont really want to take it back to the gutters or pillars.

4. try and source a westy roof and graft that on.

what do you guys think

That sounds in the ball park for a full monty respray, depends on the quality of the end product i guess.
Make sure you see plenty of whoever does its work before you commit ;)

You can probably save some money with your own prep - but that may mean all bets are off if there is a problem with the paintwork.

give these a ring if you dont mind traveling

There's no way in hell you can joggle and weld in a patch that large into your roof. As its big pre stressed panel it'll distort badly no matter how careful you are. We did some repairs on a splitty roof to fill 4 inch holes were CB aerials were fitted and it caused some problems.

To do the roof properly it needs the spot welds drilling at the gutters and completely swapping.

Not many places will accept someone elses prep work anyway.

Where abouts in notts are you?
