Can someone tell me how you wire an alternator? I believe it to be an internal regulater type.
It has two terminals, one held with a not and one male tag?

should have all you need on here

http://www.netlink.net/mp/volks/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You'll need to connect together the two large red cables that go to the regulator, and this connects to the large terminal on the alternator.
The other cable needs to be joined as well and this connects to the smaller field terminal on the alternator.
The earth is redundant, as the alternator earths itself through the pedestal.

Had a closer look at what needs doing today (speedy jim says three) and note there are only two red wires connected to the reg. The third from the dash (red/white) is splced directly into the red wire feeding the reg at the battery terminal. I guess I just need to wire the two together at the reg?

mine only had two reds also and it works fine.

Hiya sparkywig, it actually runs from the front of the bus straight to the pos battery terminal with the main cable back to the reg. So I think I only need to wire that to the original red wire from the dynamo to the reg. I think that makes sense :?

:lol: no idea!

It ran perfectly well with just the two red wires on the reg so I'll just splice them together. As Dean said that should surfice. ;)
Also need to replace a length of the black feed wire to the coil as it has gone brittle and has cracked in places, good job I spotted that :shock:
