240v hookup consumer unit + ZIG

Hi all, I have a ZIG CF9 unit which I am about to fit to my bay. I also want to run two electric sockets. I already have a 240v cable entering underneath the R/R seat but NO protection. I have spotted a twin outlet consumer unit (RCD protected) on ebay and have a choice of which MCB's I...

    My 1972 Westy, 1600TP engine, 55mph flat out ;-(

    All stock wheels/tyres.

    My 1972 Westy, 1600TP engine, 55mph flat out ;-(

Hmm, not too sure what that means (sorry, not that technical!). Before I start looking into the tech side of things, I was just trying to get an opinion to see if this kind of performance was normal. I am now suspecting that it's not ;-) I will check that both carbs are opening fully...

    My 1972 Westy, 1600TP engine, 55mph flat out ;-(

Finally went for my very first journey in my Bay Westy with the family! 1600TP engine with twin 32 Dell carbs and single quiet pack. 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 large dog, 1 bike. 55mph flat out with foot to the floor in every gear. The engine's carbs were tuned and compression is fine. Does...

New poptop canvas for 1973 Westy

I was looking into pricing for a new canvas and they all seem to be around then £290 mark. I just looked ont he Wolfsburg West site and they are the same but in dollars ($290!). Even with shipping they are going to be cheaper. Has anyone tried one from here? Thanks

    Leisure battery charge from hookup

I have a leisure battery with split charge setup. I will shortly be adding an electric hookup to add a few sockets to the van. I also have one of those 'optimate' chargers (popular with Motorbike batteries). Can I simply plug this in and attach to the battery, so whenever I hookup I simply...

    Black/Silver number plates

I am guessing that the chassis plate showing the year/month should do it (with a printout from an enthusiasts site explaining the format).

    Black/Silver number plates

Excellent! This says 'vehicles constructed' before 1973 as opposed to registered, so as far as I am concerned this is good enough for me! I will print this out and keep it with me in the camper.

    Black/Silver number plates

Hmm, I suspected as much. The van currently has b/s plates on it, so I guess I may have to get some normal ones made up for the MOT (unless this is not part of the check!).

    Black/Silver number plates

Hi all, if my bay was BUILT in Nov 1972 but REGISTERED in June 1973 (so on an L reg plate) soes this mean that I am unable to have black and silver plates made up? Everywhere I read on the web the terminology is like this "Your vehicle must be Jan 1973 or older etc", but this is vague. Made or...

Replacing panels, leaving in etched primer

Hi again. I will be replacing a couple of bits on my new camper (the front grille to start with, together with a new arch etc). The paint job is currently hand painted, so I will be sanding down. After someone has replaced the arch and any other bits, what's the correct sequence for...

Just purchased '73! Finding which month it was made + Tax

Superb, thanks for this. I will have access to the plate on Sunday so will check then. It could be why the owner says its a Nov 1972 van. That makes sense about the 73 parts, so as long as I get a part for a '73 then I should be good to go.
