4-1=3 or, you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel :-(

I recently fitted a couple of replacement hubcap clips, using standard rivets. I'm wondering if the relatively soft aluminium of the rivet heads flattened a bit more under driving load, causing a bit of play between wheel and drum, which was enough to unbalance the wheel and cause the problem...

4-1=3 or, you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel :-(

I had a near miss with this yesterday. Bus suddenly began making strange clanging noise and rear end felt a bit wobbly. I asked a passer by to look at the rear end to see what was moving - he noticed the wheel was moving in a way it shouldn't be. Was only 200 yards from home so trotted off to...

    Ghosts in the bay

...I think there is normally a permanent live feed to the starter motor (in fact to solenoid) on all unmodified buses. The ignition feed fires up the solenoid (dirty black thin cable), which engages the starter motor to fly wheel, (click!) and internally sends 12v high current through solenoid...

Took my van camping - a few holiday snaps

dunno about it breaking down but I guess the front bumper is blowing around some motorway in Southern Europe...

    Wanted: Dormobile Bunk Brackets

Both brackets on nearside have the 3rd hole - like yours on the right added comment - Not sure the comment below is correct  ---and the longer arm section always extends inwards ie towards centre of bus for all brackets--- so above I think you have on left offside rear on right...

    Camping Northern Spain

We stayed in various campsites in that area, I don't think they fill up, but wild camping is permitted in Spain, and pretty much every town seems to have an (unofficial) car park where you can camp, you can find the places by seeing a cluster of vans. On the whole the campsites were pretty...

    Dynamo new brushes

...it's fairly quick and easy to test generator Undo the two wires on the generator and put a voltmeter on the connector where the big wire was and short the connector where the small wire was to chassis When reving the engine you should see 30-50v DC This guy explains it well and his...

    Quick wire question

Thanks for all the comments Sean, The wire broke and ring connector dissolved into several corroded green parts, so am planning to cut wire back to fresh copper, and attach short piece of new wire to regain the length. I am not sure yet how to join the wires ? Maybe add a 40 amp fuse/holder...

    Quick wire question

Can anyone advise what rating wire this is (the broken bit that doesn't quite reach to where it should...) (Its the wire that takes power to front of bus to power everything except starter motor. Thanks

    Bleeding brakes

Thumbs up from me too. The only tip I can offer is if you just need a small bleed, ie after changing a slave cylinder, don't put any fluid in the gunson bottle, then use as instructed. It will still force the fluid from bus reservoir into system (but won't replenish bus reservoir). It's a lot...

    Starter refurbisher...

Sean Who are you using to recondition your starter ? Cool Air charge £170 for reconditioned, but then give you £50 back on the old one... (so £120 for a reconditioned swap) Thanks

    Starter refurbisher...

Replaced starter today, jeez what a job, not helped by PO replacing special locking bolt with standard hex bolt Reading up it seems recondition OE is the way to go - and the only supplier I can find is Cool Air - are there any others I should consider..., would be nice to have a choice. CA say...

    charging problems

Thanks for the good comments - I think I found the problem - but not had time to test yet. The thick cable from generator to reg had a homemade crimp connection - which came apart with slight tug. I have soldered new connector. With my limited knowledge of electricity it might be the poor...

    charging problems

Anyone got any pointers on this. If I charge up battery with charger, and turn engine over without dizzy, it will happy turn for over a minute before starting to fade - so battery ok ? When engine rev'ed voltage on battery goes up to 13.6 v - so generator is charging (red generator light goes...

    Any plumbers out there...?

Thanks for the comments. The cylinder was replaced by a professional plumber when we had a back boiler fitted to wood burner, but apparently he f*ed it up and the problem is exactly as SteveGTU describes. The system traps air in the entry to cylinder. That pipe should be fitted downwards so air...

    Sliding door noise

This may be blatantly obvious, apologies if it is, if you slide the door gently and gently push the rear of the door inwards when just about to shut it's much quieter, and would only wake up immediate neighbours. (not so easy from the inside when you still have to smash it!) It also feels much...

    Any plumbers out there...?

Can anyone answer or comment on this..? I've got gravity fed hot water pumped radiators All was working, then had new cylinder fitted to provide second heat exchanger for wood burner. Now gravity fed hot water does not heat up. The wood burner circuit is separate and works fine Should...
