Just fitted new brushes to my dynamo (red warning light on) they seem to be sitting up really high retaining spring just about sitting on top of brushes does this sound right. Red light still on drrrrr!!!
 
What diagnosis have you done to lead to you changing the brushes? Could it be the regulator that has had it? Dynamo need re-polarising?

...it's fairly quick and easy to test generator

Undo the two wires on the generator and put a voltmeter on the connector where the big wire was and short the connector where the
small wire was to chassis

When reving the engine you should see 30-50v DC

Hi Moseley/slmatt, as above RED LIGHT ON brushes right down spring touching holder so went for cheapest first. Thanks slm only be able to check Monday will post up results
