    37 days to go....

-26 days to go..... If I'm going to get this done in time I figured I need to bring in some help so the welding pixies came in while I was at work today so when I got back this.... ....looked like this which was a great motivational start to the weekend. They had time to attend to a few...

    37 days to go....

...He wishes he meant months ;) - 27 days to go..... It's been kind of busy but not as busy as I would have liked where the van is concerned, the evenings are proving shorter than I would like them to be. Mostly been working through boxes of crap to sort out what I have and what is...

    37 days to go....

    - 31 Days to go..... Heading up the barn now to get stuck in, work has taken over a bit this week so no progress since the last post, hopefully there will be lots to show by the end of the day!

I came across the emergency beer when I was stripping it out.....this has already been consumed :)

    37 days to go....

    - 36 days to go..... So to illustrate the current state of the van this thread needs some more pics.... I spent last night sitting in the engine bay. This was quite inspiring as you can only see a small section of the van at any one time therefore allowing me to become detached...

    37 days to go....

There are only 37 days to go. There will be bodges. There will be bad language. There may be bad times. There will be good times. So with the intention to give the van a bit of a spruce up and fit some dual carbs that have been sitting in the box for the last 3 years I got a bit carried...

Any tips on getting the sliding door runner covers off

Yep, removed 3 bots in total. I'm guessing the whole thing is just rusted together....

Any tips on getting the sliding door runner covers off

Not worried about the paint, that's the reason I'm taking it off ;) Is it one of those things where actually it is just a case of carefully applied brute force works?

Any tips on getting the sliding door runner covers off

I've taken out the bolts, pulled out the rubber trim to give a little more slack but I still can't get the little fe*er to shift.... Anybody got some tips on the 'knack'?

Vintagespeed Exhaust anyone actually got one?

So, with an intentional revival of a thread almost a year old, I'd be interested to hear reviews from those who were fitting these back then now that they've had some time to gain experience with them....

    Fitting a reversing light

Nice, makes a change! Thanks Araon

    Fitting a reversing light

So if I take out the blanking plug in the nose cone of my '68 gear box and replace with a reversing light switch, are the parts inside the box appropriate to engage with it to activate the switch when reverse is in gear? Sounds too easy, bound not to be true....

Megabug Recon steering box any good?

The megabug reconditioned steering boxes are made of cheese, I've had one which has seen very limited milage and it's already showing signs of wear. Depending on what else you plan to do to the van and what kind of condition your front suspension is in, if you start tallying up the cost of a...

How many spot welds hold on the air filter Pedestal?

I'd rather not take a hacksaw to the air filter pedestal prefering to leave the option of refitting it by bolting it back in at a later date should I wish to. I just wondered whether anybody knew exactly how many spot welds hold it in place on a '68, it would be good to find all the little...

    Header fouling engine support bar

I have a type 1 engine with a type 2 conversion kit in a '68 bay. The exhaust header clamps up tight against the engine support bar when fitted, is this a common problem or do I just have a badly shaped header?

    Coil mounting?

    That's a good looking motor :D

FREE: Front clip spare wheel mounting bracket

Came with our van and seemingly unused, plain galvanised finish. Free to collector, but only if you want to replace a rusty one that's already fitted, if you're going to take it to drill holes in the face of your poor unsuspecting van to mount the spare wheel you can't have it!

Dual Carbs - Straight from Loft to Engine?

Coolio.... I can here the spanners coming out some time soon then :)

Dual Carbs - Straight from Loft to Engine?

I've got some twin 40's that have been residing the the loft for a couple of years waiting for me to do something with them, they are jetted for a 1641 as in the van so I've always assumed that they would be a fairly straight forward fit, balance and run but recently someone told me that if...

    What size fuse for........

Hi Johnny, thanks for your answers yesterday, the battery went on my phone shortly afterwards thus ending all my life lines so sorry I didn't say ta yesterday. I ended up bunging in an 8 amp so that I wouldn't fry anything and that did the trick. To be honest I'm not sure the previous owner...
