New 1776cc engine and no power

I have a 1776 in my bay ( incidentally also built by Steve Strong ). I ran it at first with the 009 dizzy I had from my original 1600 and it had a massive flat spot. At suggestion from guys on here I swapped to a vacuum advance dizzy and this cured the problem. I still had to vary the timing...

In-Line Fuel Filter - Recommendations Needed

If you haven't already got a fuel cut off valve this is the way to go. Can either be used with a plumbed in extinguisher or on its own - replacement filter elements are available too :) http://www.vwaircooledworks.co.uk/Fuel-Tank-Cut-Off-Solenoid.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

    Running woes. Long post sorry.

I think most people on here agree that a 009 is not much good in a bus - especially on bigger capacity engines. I had one on my 1600TP which I tried to use when I changed it for a 1776. It popped back through the carbs under load when cold and had a massive flat spot when warm. I swapped it for...

    Rear 71 brakes

No, there are differences form year to year - I found this out when I got the wrong size slave cylinders. Best to check your chassis number to identify the build year as this does not always correspond to the reg date on the V5.

    Pulley fell off

Is it a genuine pulley or some Chinese "performance" piece of **** ? Unusual for a VW one to let go, as above post a pic please :?

    Electrical woe's

Fuses normally go for a reason- but one reason is age of the fuse itself. If it goes again it might be a good idea to check and clean up contacts and connections. Have a look at the rubber boot on the brake light switch - mine was split and let a load of crud in which stopped my brake lights...

Brake issues - hot brake fluid

As above, friction = heat - which is then transferred to the brake fluid - if you have ever seen a rally car at night you may have seen the brake discs glowing red hot under extreme braking - these guys use a high boiling point brake fluid to minimize brake "fade". To find out which brake is...

Are all front disc braked bays boosted

Hi mate, mines a 71 with front discs, no servo or bracket on the standard beam. You can buy a weld in bracket - Iam sure there is a link on here somewhere. I am planning to fit a VW Jim remote Servo on mine as gives more mounting options- details are on his website: http://www.vwjim.co.uk/"...

    original heating

I eventually traced my poor heating problem to restricted airflow in the centre tube http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=68374" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Worth checking out

C&C to the rescue, they have just added these : http://www.customandcommercial.com/vw-baywindow/baywindow_body_repair_panels/baywindow_rear_corners/correct_fit_complete_rear_corner_right_8fslash67-7fslash72_27682/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wanted - Offside rear Corner cut for 71

Sorry no, that looks like its for 72 on as it has the hole for the rectangular rear light. Mine has the oval rear lights, same as a late split = but I am told a split one is different where it meets the rear wheel arch . thanks for looking though :)

    Shocks for Early Discs

Got these on my 71, firmed up the ride nicely and fitted with no problems, best to "soak your nuts" with penetrating fluid before trying to remove the old shocks as they are prone to rusting up as covered in crud from the wheels...

    keep an eye out !!

If they find the vermin that took this old boy's pride and joy I hope they throw the book at them , preferably still in the bookcase and from a great height

    Cold engine

Good luck on getting that test cert ! Nothing like claiming that first free tax disc (although sadly you not get an actual disc anymore).

    Fitting the engine seal

I would not recommend cutting the seal, you will end up with gaps were the heat and worse still, the fumes from the exhaust will be sucked in. The best thing to do is make sure the channels are all free of dirt and rust an then lubricate the seal well with rubber lube or wd40 , it should then...

    1776 questions

Definitely go for a Vac dizzy, had a 009 on my 1776 and had a big old flat spot, changed to an Accuspark with Vac set up and ran pipes to both carbs and all is sweet .

Lack of heat to the feet !

Removed the heater "totem pole" and stuck the Hoover pipe down the hole in the floor - this is the contents of the bag ! I don't think it was helping the air flow.
