Pulley fell off

As it says. The bolt is still in place but the pulley wheel is off. Had a generator warning light come on. Pulled over and the bottom pulley wheel was off.

How can this happen

How do I prevent it happening again

How do I fix it.

I had a rather large failure of the top pulley a couple of year ago
Basically the welds failed and it exploded at abut 3500rpm

Only way to prevent future failure of poor pattern parts was to get a billet item installed - not cheap but no welds to worry about as its milled out of one piece of metal

Looks like the case has been machined for a larger dia oil thrower pulley and washer is too small,its somthing the big engine rebuilders do.
