Summer ruined due to death rattle. What have I done wrong?

Dreaded death rattle ? What did your friend diagnose ? Unless you did something completely daft (which it doesn't sound like) then VWH should exchange it a very least. Also 'Breathing a little' - can you explain ? Cheers JS

    what engine size?

1776 is a good safe bet for a type 1 engine- (relatively) easy to build with extra torque fo those hills. In US though you have more of the type4 engines (1700, 1800 and 2000) in post 72 buses than were ever fitted in Europe. What year is your bus ? Doh , now I post it I see you're a 71 -...

Replacement window seals for '69 Danbury (ex kombi)

Hi Kombis and microbus are more or less the same thing and so will have factory windows fitted. My 70 Danbury has factory windows. If yours has an opening quarter light on the sides (e.g. sliding door - assuming it hasn't been changed) then it should be factory. Also if it has seatbelt mounts...

    Outrigger Surgery

Agreed however getting the old off is proving a PITA. I cut a section out and tried chiselling but the spot welds are holding fast. Thinking I will cut off with a 1mm disc as close as poss to the flanges and then grind back. And there's me thinking this would be a stroll in the park. JS

Which immobiliser? or is it not worth it

Reading around it seems the biggest theft issues appear to be from off your drive/outside the house. That means the theif is more likely to be planned and prepare. In which case some kind of physical immobiliser - wheel clamp or hinged post might be best to help prevent the towaway.. JS

Fitting new front door cards what adhesive do i use to stick

I repaired an old slide card that was bent creased and coming undone, on the creases I slapped on some diluted PVA and then weighed in down on flat surface with some polythene to stop the weights (books) sticking. On teh edges I used Bostick general purpose glue (or wilkos equivalent) also with...

    STANFORD HALL 2012 - SUN JULY 1st

Seemed about the same as last year to me maybe a tad smaller. Although some of the trade stands were moved to the left of the avenue of trees so looked abit different form previous years. No JK parts (only brochures) or VWH but Schofields an MegaBug had decent stands. Bought a few bits.. Had...

Weber 32/36 dfav is it worth it?

Better than a leaky carb I would say and can give you extra oomph at the lights if you can get the 2nd venturi to open fully - that seems to be the biggest issue due to the linkage and cable angles. On Vzi you will find a number of ingeniuous mechanism that people have posted. Also mine had...

What Dizzy do I have - possible stupid question

You neeed to read the numbers stamped on the side of it. Also if it has a mushroom shaped 'can' on one side that connects via a tube to the carb it's a vacuum-assist advance type. Cheers JS

    Oil pump oil seal

There's a cover gasket and a flange gasket on the oil pump but no seal as such. I had a leak at the flange- crankcase joint once and yes you can pull the pump with the engine in situ. Fixed mine with silicone flange sealant as I had no replacement gaket at the time. You will need to buy or make...

Help - thumping sound while on move !

Hi All Suddenly developed a thumping sound from rear of vehicle. seemd to be in time with wheel rotation so I'm thinking brakes maybe or final drive. No difference if I depress clutch while moving. Brakes not getting too hot but only just noticed it while pootling around town. Gets quite loud...

    Fridge installation question

If it's a 'little' RM123/122 I wasnt aware that you needed an external lower vent. IIRC they recommend a dump hole in case of leakage of fuel, about 2 inch dia (?). Sure a lower vent wouldn't hurt provided it is baffled somehow to stop the wind blowing out the flame. JS

    34 ICT jets for 1776

Another point of refernce will be VZi. Check out the posts by 'Mucky Green' aka Laurie Pettit. He is a respected engine builder who has listed jets and emulsion tube selection for 1776 many times. Best not post the request again as he can react badly to those who don't use search :msn4...
