    Timing?

Assuming you still have points, have you checked the points gap? The only reason I can think for the light to not go out is you have the wrong gap and the coil is always 'on'. Its that or your points are damaged/broken and are grounding through the distributor.

Aldon Amethyst Ignition/Custom Ignition Curve Mapping

Thanks Nobbly. I've got a bit more to add yet, and will update some more as I go. I've updated the thread title, should be a bit more representative of the content.

Aldon Amethyst Ignition/Custom Ignition Curve Mapping

Here we go with a bit more detail.. First off, heres a spreadsheet for calculating RPM at a chosen speed in a selected gear. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9xT79c4E08gVURha0VHRFhpemc Yellow cells are input cells; based on your gearbox specs, wheel size and speed of interest. The current...

    Trickle charging

Interesting comment. If the split charge relay is closed (or connecting the two batteries together) the alternator just see's a total load from both batteries whatever the amp/hour rating they are. It cant decide which one to read, its just a bulk of stored energy.

Aldon Amethyst Ignition/Custom Ignition Curve Mapping

So, created this thread almost 4 months ago and will now update on progress. Took a bit longer than expected to get my gearbox back, so only got the engine in just after christmas. Done a fair bit of tweaking since using the amethyst module. I hope this thread will not only provide an insight...

    Best rotor arm + cap

Good evening, Just wondering what the best quality rotor arm + cap is for an SVDA/009 distributor. Just had a dizzy rotor crack and begin to fail on me, I've replaced it with an unbranded spare but want to try and avoid a recurrence.. Looks like the Beru ones seem to be well regarded on...

    Discount codes

http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=61538 Old code has probably expired, give Jon a shout and see if there's a new one for 2017?

Spark plug hard to get in

Before any repair methods I would try chasing the threads with an M12x1.25 tap. (Might need to double check the size!) Doesn't sound like the thread is gone because you would struggle to tighten the plug sufficiently, or it would blow out due to cylinder pressure.

    Electronic rust protection

I think the idea is based on the use of sacrificial anodes as cathodic prorection on subsea equipment. Ref. http://rules.dnvgl.com/docs/pdf/DNV/codes/docs/2011-04/RP-B401.pdf . Its based on the idea of using the steel as a cathode, then a material significantly lower than that in the galvanic...

    6 rib gearbox question

Surely if that's the case, the OP with a 1641 + 34 ICT's won't be far off 70-75 HP also? Might need a better exhaust if still running stock, but that's about all? I've not done many more changes than the OP, I've only got 1.25:1 rockers because I'm using 33/30mm small valve Mexican EFI heads...

    6 rib gearbox question

195/70 R14's all round, about 4% smaller circumference than stock 185/80 R14. Which is 3mph or so at 70.

    Earlybay Campout 2017 ** DATE CONFIRMED 6/7TH MAY 2017**

    6 rib gearbox question

I would just like to throw this one out there now. As I said before I was having my 3rib box rebuilt with the 4.57(or 2ltr size) ring and pinion for higher cruising speed. Got a 1600 with stock cam + 1.25 rockers, twin Weber 34 ICTs, and custom exhaust. Now I've got the engine back and...

    Timing starting issues

That should be correct having play at TDC of that cylinder. Have you checked your points gap, assuming your running points? Sent from my Wileyfox Swift 2 using Tapatalk

    Roof rack ID please!

It looks almost identical to the one NLA VW sell..http://nlavw.com/roof/12-classic-roof-rack-for-vw-t2-t25-tin-top.html But missing one of the central bars? Looks like there's some holes where it should be? Sent from my Wileyfox Swift 2 using Tapatalk

Servo pipe options and engine install advice

Put box and engine in my bus in the past week or so. Gearbox went in first, then engine. Gearbox in first made it so much easier to get to the CV joints to torque them up. To install the gearbox I cut a piece of 18mm thick plywood about the overall size of the gearbox and screwed two wooden...

    Fuel gauge spade connector joiner

Mine was/is the same. I have used some epoxy to glue the spade into the plastic spacer, then epoxied the spacer+spade in the hole on the cluster. Seems to work fine. Sent from my Wileyfox Swift 2 using Tapatalk

    6 rib gearbox question

Micko68 is running a beetle box. I think Graham @Midland Early Bay has mentioned the beetle gearbox conversion/fitting kits before, might be worth giving him a shout. Apparently you can shift the engine back just enough by modifying the mounts a bit to give you the 10mm or so longer the the...

    Best Distributor

I've fitted a Aldon Amethyst ignition unit to my bus recently, which allows you to input your own vac and mechanical advance curves, and can be fired via points or accuspark etc units. Not tested it on the running engine yet, because I'm waiting on my gearbox being rebuilt. But it appears to be...
