I have a 68 as well, and the PO replaced the driver's side door handle with a later model. My key works all doors except the 68 passenger side handl, so I'm guessing there is in fact a difference between 68 and other years. I will keep using it until there's problems but for now I tagged these...

I didn't even know that some early bays had an indicator cancelling device. Can this be fitted to a 68? Is it just a circular ring with a base to secure it to the steering wheel and a lip that bumps into the indicator stalk as it rotates?

This. A 5lb hammer will simulate-ish an impact wrench while someone stands on your heavy duty breaker bar & minimum 4 foot extension after a day soaked with penetration fluid.

My bus is lowered but I still wouldn't use the original jack for fear of it tipping off at height. I carry a "small" trolley jack, brick wheel block, 1 foot square of plywood and jackstand all in a wooden tool box ... but then again I have the room with an empty panel van.

I would find a solid used manifold, make sure air passes through easily at both heat risers. If it doesn't, make a loop heavy gauge wire at a length that will reach halfway into your manifold and spin with a drill until clear of carbon build-up. Flushing it with kerosene during the process will...

Some good advice above. Before ordering new parts, I would drop the engine to see which release bearing you actually need. If your engine or transmission has ever been worked on/replaced it may not be the same clutch as original. I bet it's the release arm ends that have snapped ...

I think Moseley was implying that a "torque wrench" should only be used to fine tune the torque of a nut/bolt after using a standard wrench/ratchet to tighten close to the specified torque. If you meant to say you used a "breaker bar" ... then keep on keeping on! :)

This! ^^^ Also, get a friend to tap the end of the breaker bar at the socket with a 5lbs hammer. This imitates the action of an impact gun and will make it easier to remove. I've heard too many stories about reproduction axle nuts cracking for me to throw out originals.
