    Door handle question!

I have a 68 as well, and the PO replaced the driver's side door handle with a later model. My key works all doors except the 68 passenger side handl, so I'm guessing there is in fact a difference between 68 and other years. I will keep using it until there's problems but for now I tagged these...

    Indicator cancelling ring

I didn't even know that some early bays had an indicator cancelling device. Can this be fitted to a 68? Is it just a circular ring with a base to secure it to the steering wheel and a lip that bumps into the indicator stalk as it rotates?

    Rear hub nut 1970 Bus

This. A 5lb hammer will simulate-ish an impact wrench while someone stands on your heavy duty breaker bar & minimum 4 foot extension after a day soaked with penetration fluid.

    jack question

My bus is lowered but I still wouldn't use the original jack for fear of it tipping off at height. I carry a "small" trolley jack, brick wheel block, 1 foot square of plywood and jackstand all in a wooden tool box ... but then again I have the room with an empty panel van.

Tinware question / missing bit wanted

I would find a solid used manifold, make sure air passes through easily at both heat risers. If it doesn't, make a loop heavy gauge wire at a length that will reach halfway into your manifold and spin with a drill until clear of carbon build-up. Flushing it with kerosene during the process will...

What NOT to do with your bus!

Reminds me of a Brubaker Box ... just fuglier.

    clutch

Some good advice above. Before ordering new parts, I would drop the engine to see which release bearing you actually need. If your engine or transmission has ever been worked on/replaced it may not be the same clutch as original. I bet it's the release arm ends that have snapped ...

newbie owner 69 bay need help.pleeease

Welcome Steve. Buy/download/borrow a Bentley repair manual along with other repair manuals that will help you understand the simplicities and complexities of your bus' various systems. Make a list of basic systems until you have everything then go through one at a time checking for damage, wear...

    Which clutch

Here's a link to an edited version of the Bug Me Video which is by far the best description of all possible clutch and throw-out bearing combinations for type 1 engines of all sizes. Unfortunately the video is just a teaser and most of the explanation of different clutches was left out, but...

    Rear drum nuts

I think Moseley was implying that a "torque wrench" should only be used to fine tune the torque of a nut/bolt after using a standard wrench/ratchet to tighten close to the specified torque. If you meant to say you used a "breaker bar" ... then keep on keeping on! :)

    Rear drum nuts

This! ^^^ Also, get a friend to tap the end of the breaker bar at the socket with a 5lbs hammer. This imitates the action of an impact gun and will make it easier to remove. I've heard too many stories about reproduction axle nuts cracking for me to throw out originals.

What did you do with your early bay today

Yesterday Buddha passed the MVIS (MOT in Canada) so my son and I went for a ride to where the end of the documentary "Once More" was filmed. We had been there many times, but this time was special driving in our aircooled bus. Awesome day!

    Windscreen washers

The hoses get dried out at the connections, so maybe this is where you are loosing pressure. The easiest and most inexpensive troubleshooting ... check behind the switch to see if there is a leak when pressurized. If yes, depressurize the system by releasing air from the valve (not the refill...

    Removing crank pulley

I remove my pulley with a BIG flat head screwdriver and a rubber mallet. Place the end of the screwdriver up tight against the crank shaft at the back of the pulley. A couple good hits, with the screwdriver up against the pulley, towards the front of the engine (rear of the bus) and it should...
