My original gearbox housing is past it so i got another box. Same CA code no`s but the release bearing is different, it has a guide sleeve fitted and the mounting points on top of clutch housing for later model bus. I did find out CA codes go from 70 - 73 so is the only difference the release bearing ? Don`t want to get the wrong bits :?

The later type bearing with a guide sleeve needs the later type clutch cover plate/pressure plate. Eg. The one without the ring. It works direct on the "fingers" of the diaphragm.

Some aftermarket clutches are made to do both and you have to remove the ring, (held on by a clip) for the later release bearings.

Does it have something to do with the shape of the clutch operating shaft shape ?

Here's a link to an edited version of the Bug Me Video which is by far the best description of all possible clutch and throw-out bearing combinations for type 1 engines of all sizes. Unfortunately the video is just a teaser and most of the explanation of different clutches was left out, but maybe you can get what you need here. Skip ahead to minute 2:40 and he will explain which clutch matches which throw-out bearing and transmission. The bearing with the sleeve is bolted to the transmission through those three holes. If you don't have a transmission with the triangular mount around the shaft then you need the other bearing and clutch plate of the correct size to fit your 1600.

The full length videos from Bug Me are excellent ... not sure if available in UK.
