    continuing dynamo pulley probs

Possibly a poor key, or cheap shiny Chinese pulley that fit poorly to start with. Probably best to go with a new alternator - you might ask the garage if they would like to contribute as it should have lasted longer than that. You might want to wave the Sale of Goods Act at them if you had...

how can i tell if tinware is genuine?

OEM is heavier; but be aware that some variations exist, so you might not pick up a breast plate that works with the pulley tin for instance. It should fit really well and cleans up nice if blasted/powdercoated.

Rear end is sitting on bumpstops

You are possibly also running on the shock bottom as well - sounds like the PO was a numpty. Read the threads here on lowering and do it right. The torsion bar will have been rotated to drop it. Read your Haynes manual to see how this should be set and then go from there, remembering you will...

    Pinking when hot

Just out of interest there is a WR6 BC plug we call a BMW plug (I assume early BMW issue, now numbered 7993) that is slightly longer than a stock bug one, but is the usual 14mm thread. Good for cleaning up a slightly rich condition, but needs to be run hard as it is a cold running plug and short...

    New sliding windows

I am hoping to get the original German style ones with the latch on the bottom, not on the side like the Heritage version. I'll let you know what comes up.

    New sliding windows

We are looking into what is available at the moment, as VW Brazil lists more than one part number - maybe tinted/clear and black/silver frames?? Will keep you posted on progress.

    New sliding windows

Would there be any interest in new genuine VW sliding windows for the side and back of the bay? Hopefully in satin aluminium rather than black and German style latch assembly rather than the cheaper Brazil marker version. The glass is Sekurit and E marked.

So how much would you pay for 1 original BRM wheel?

Rarity value, and one-upmanship! At that price you would be more than a little p***ed if you kerbed it, and weekly polishing sessions (more in the wet) would soon get rather boring. Why MWS hasn't made a mag version for the racers I don't know - China has no problems with all the nasties...

    Bunty - '71 Tin-Top Sunshine Bus Resto

Amazing what you are doing - it's a shame the PO hadn't the same skill and enthusiasm for the job. I thought my bus was a little rough until I saw what you have got into. Now I know why there are so few bays around where I live now - they all went to Europe!! Keep the pics coming. Al

    valve stem seals

You do not need the seals, and as they are poor quality aftermarket you will soon find them in pieces inside your engine. The only time VW has put oil seals on heads any time recently was the Mexican FI heads to keep oil from polluting the cat, and they were 'proper' seals, not the nasty little...

Full Flow and the engine support bar

Now why don't they pre-clearance fittings supplied in a bus kit? Like this: http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?products_id=295" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Al

will my engine stay just as cool using j-tubes ?

If you are going to run J pipes then use the industrial tin to keep the heat away from the heads - yes, VW supplied heater boxes for all markets for a reason, they don't just heat the interior but also cool the pipes under the heads. Al

    Alternator conversions

Bosch no longer make alternators, and the end of the run from Brazil had the scrapings thrown in. Chinese ones are a mixed bag - some are good, some are bad - and you may not know for a year. German generators last, and good used alternators are often a better bet. Al

    Slick 50 in a Gearbox?

Slick 50 is a PTFE/Teflon additive, and Dupont sued the makers to remove their trademarked 'Teflon' name as "Teflon is not useful as an ingredient in oil additives or oils used for internal combustion engines." They make the stuff, and if it was good, you know they would be selling it! Molyslip...

    '71 Chianti Red Patina Deluxe

I picked up a '71 sunroof deluxe in the same colours 2 years ago, and very similar condition. It's amazing what a little TLC can do to a neglected bus. The problem with the U.S is there are no MOT's and the mechanicals like ball joints are usually shot, but the relatively rust free...

Gene Berg locking shifters HAVE ALL BEEN POSTED

Hi guys, Sorry some of you seem to be having issues with these. We will look after you, so don't fret. Personally I have always just bolted them in and they work fine for me without adjustment - must be lucky. Wannabay, you will need to gring the tab off one of your keys so that it can be put...

Advice on upgrading to an Alternator

You might want to keep an eye on the amp output of the alternator, as these are not Bosche, but Chinese, and have been known to drop to single digits within a year. It's a shame Bosch has got too big to care about the air-cooled market as it could have been making its own 75amp ones in Brazil. Al

    crank and head machining

No crank machining required (unless your crank is bad). I would pull it and check for straightness and wear whilst you are in there. Also check the case for cracking and wear to the bearing saddles. Depending on mileage this is a good time to replace all bearings also to cope with the extra...

    Kick panels

Not by vendors as yet, but you can order from him through his Samba advert. I'm trying to get him to do the under back seat kick panel (with/w/o heater outlets). This may have to be a 2 part unit due to oversize shipping costs. Al
