Torsion Bar Ball Joint Boot replacement - THANKS

Thanks to all for the replies. Will give the hammer a go. As I do not want to replace the joint I will give the heating method a miss. Checking bus prior to impending MOT and found that the ball joint boot on the lower off side torsion arm is split. I have a new boot but getting the ball joint...

Type 4 Engine Fuel Push Rod Length

Alternator, don't think generators were ever fitted to the type 4 engine. Other than this issue the engine is running fine.

    Hesitant Acceleration and slight popping

Thanks Trikky, found the brake servo hose leaking. Have replaced the hose and no more popping. Still have an issue that the bus runs great at 50mph ish but more than a few seconds at 60 and she looses power, recovering if I drive at low speed, 30 ish for maybe 30 sec's then she will drive...

Type 4 Engine Fuel Push Rod Length

Still having running issues, initially runs at 60 happily then looses power. Have removed the fuel pump push rod, Haynes manual says this should be 139.5mm long, measured mine at 135mm long. Is the Haynes manual correct? If so it seems mine is very worn and I am suprised it runs at all. :?

    Hesitant Acceleration and slight popping

Fitted a recon 1800 to my crossover replacing a 1700. On accelerating she is now hesitates then picks up unless I am heavy footed when you dont really notice the hesitation. This hesitation is felt in all gears and speeds/revs. There is also small 'pops' from the exhaust on decelaration, not...

No day visitors camper jam sunday

Really impressed with the efforts of the organisers to make the most of the weekend and not cancel as so many shows have had to do. The mud and the shortage of traders was made up for by evening entertainment and some good beer! No trouble driving out on Sunday afternoon that was made a little...

    Clutch size help please

Am swapping my 1700 type 4 for an 1800 in my crossover. 1800 arrived today without a flywheel, the 1700 has a 210mm fly/clutch assembly. Is it OK for this to go into the 1800 or do I need a larger clutch which entails getting a new flywheel? :?

    Clutch Size

I am replacing the 1700 type 4 with an 1800. I believe that my present clutch is 215mm, can this be swapped straight over to the 1800? Seen various topics about clutch sizes for various size engines and some contradict each other. Thanks :)

    Recon Type 4 Engines

Looking around at various suppliers of recon type 4 engines. Need a 1700/1800 for my crossover and wondering has anyone good/bad experience with companies? Was looking at Vega as I believed they were the best but most expensive but have seen many comments on poor quality/workmanship. Any...

    Replacing Type 4 1700 Engine

I am needing to replace the engine in my bus. At present it is a 1700 type 4. VW Heritage advertise replacing 1700 with an 1800. Might be a dumb question but is this a straight swap, carbs, tin wear etc all the same? believe 1800 is easier to get spares for so for long term it looks a good...
