Replacing Type 4 1700 Engine

I am needing to replace the engine in my bus. At present it is a 1700 type 4. VW Heritage advertise replacing 1700 with an 1800. Might be a dumb question but is this a straight swap, carbs, tin wear etc all the same? believe 1800 is easier to get spares for so for long term it looks a good idea.
