    FBH fuel tank location…

You can see the vent on the top of the filler neck. Guess you just need to run a tube from it to a convenient location...

    Crappy Year

Thanks for all your support. Finally got the engine rebuilt. New cool tins fitted (hoping they work). Going to fit the brake servo which I have had lying around for 2 years, only now got the cold weather and snow this week so leaving that off for a while.

    Crappy Year

2024 started off ok, did a couple of pub stopovers and Glampfest, then the year turned to ratshit. Threw the flywheel on the way to Glampfest, but still had a good weekend. Took 4 days to get the bus home with the RAC. Then we had the devastating news that out daughter in law had cancer and...

New DVLA regs for over 70's

You need to renew your licence when you reach 70, but currently (and this may change) you do not need any doctors certificate to continue driving: however you do need to inform DVLA if you have any illnesses that may preclude you from driving.

    hard starting when warm

Sounds like you need to fit a "Hot Start" relay. Old wiring causes a drop in current especially when warm, this relay allows full current to be applied to the starter.

    What's on your list ?

    1. Finish off rebuilding my engine after the flywheel came loose. 2. Install the brake servo that's been sitting in my garage for the last 2 years. 3. Sort out the small rust patches that has appeared in several places. 4. Fit rear disk brakes.

    Nasty Knocking Noise

Further to my earlier posts, I have now split the case and cannot find any major damage. This engine has been suffering from over heating and it also burst an external oil cooler pipe (too near to the exhaust). So I am replacing all the bearings polishing the crank checking deck height etc. I...

    Damaged pistons and barrels

Stripped my 1776 down after had the flywheel come loose the other weekend. Camshaft is ok, crank is ok but still need to check journals for any sign of ovality. However; got this strange damage to the top edge of 3 of the pistons (funnily enough not piston 3). Anyone any idea of what might have...

    Nasty Knocking Noise

I agree with K@rlos, whilst the engine is out I am going to replace the all the bearings. I probably will replace the crank for a Scat one as per his recommendations. I just hope the (relatively) new aluminium case isn't shafted...

    Nasty Knocking Noise

Ozziedog, I did whip the fan belt off to make sure it wasn't the alt or fan (forgot to mention it in my post). RAC (or their contracted company) did get my bus home albeit 4 days later. took the engine out yesterday, the flywheel was loose, I could undo the gland nut with my fingers. Seems like...

    Nasty Knocking Noise

Spent last weekend at Glampfest near Ripon. Drove up the A1 from Grantham and had some weird noises from the loud cupboard as we got to the site which then turned into a loud nocking noise. At this point oil pressure was ok and could change gears. Anyway, had a good weekend but decided to get...

Replacement Indicator Stalk - 8 wire to 5 wire, please help

Get hold of a wiring diagram for the original switch and work out which colour wire goes where (left/right/flash). Use a battery (9v would do) connect that to the +v source wire then use a small light bulb and and a multimeter to work out which wires correspond to the left / right and flash...

Has anyone fitted a 12v vacuum pump with a brake servo?

    Brake lines routing

Rear connector on the master cylinder goes to the rear brakes. front connector on the master cylinder goes to the front brakes, doesn't get much simpler than that...

    Sump full of fuel (again)

Cut off solenoid fitted. Carbs rebuilt with new gaskets, accelerator pump diaphragms and floats. Filled up with new oil (was drained a few days ago so any remaining fuel has evaporated by now). Went for a test drive checked oil levels. no smell of petrol, so hopefully all good now.

    Heater tubes

Support the engine from underneath. Undo the moustache engine mounts. Wiggle the engine slightly to one side, might be enough to get one in. If successful repeat the other side.

    Sump full of fuel (again)

I might be getting on in years but I’m not gaga yet. Yes the gaskets are there, besides petrol would have been pissing out everywhere if no gasket! Service kits from Eurocarb ordered.
