California import left hand drive very solid van. Tax/MOT free. I have owned her for the last 9 years and she’s been garaged every day of that (apart from holidays). Speedo repairs

This may be your lucky day, I recently bought a doner Speedo and swapped my internals to it. Can't be sure but I think I kept the old back which I think was in mph. If I can find it and you can collect (Cheshire) then you can have it. I'm pretty sure the internals for the speed would be The...

    Speedo repairs

Can you tell us what's wrong with it? Speedos are delicate things to work on but there are some clever people on here.

    Speedi Sleeve on flywheel

Hey buddy. Totally stopped it. Where do you get your flywheels from mate? The sleeves are only about £21 and the cheapest flywheel I could find was over £100.

    Speedi Sleeve on flywheel

Yeah main seal a O ring. I'll probably go with a new flywheel next time I think but it's nice to have options.

    Speedi Sleeve on flywheel

Well I got one and fitted it. Quite painless really. They are very very thin and very very very tight so hopefully will do the job. Only time will tell now. Here are some pics. Before: SKF 99269 Fitted: I'm not sure if there is a better fitting one height wise because I had to trim quite a...

    Speedi Sleeve on flywheel

Well I'm sick of the leak so I'm going to whip the flywheel off and take it to my local bearing company and see if they can find one to fit. If they do I'll let you know the part number. There are loads of sites which talk about beetles but nothing about bays. Are the flywheels different on bays?

    Speedi Sleeve on flywheel

Morning, has anyone used a speedi sleeve on a 1600 flywheel to fix a crankshaft oil leak? If so do you know the skf part number?

Rear side Quarter Lights - installing new rubbers

Yes you're absolutely right silicone spray is best although WD40 only eats natural rubber. Plus I don't think the small amount used would have any effect especially if you clean everything after installation like I do. I'm glad to hear others can't open the window after installation and it's...

Rear side Quarter Lights - installing new rubbers

WD40 mate. Get as much of the larger side of the rubber hooked in as possible and then ease the smaller side under the lip with a really blunt flat bladed screw driver. Being really careful not to slip and damage yourself, the rubber or the channel. Once you get one bit started work along and it...

Oil breather filter & tinware blank

I fitted one of these breather filters when I converted my carb. Worst thing I ever did. I'm just about to take my engine out again to do a proper job and link it up to my inlet. You'll pop an oil seal like I have.

    Busfest thoughts

Can't argue with any of this. Did manage to get some bits and had an interesting conversation with my 5 and 8 year olds about zombies on chains and uncle fester playing a mobile piano. The show didn't feel as friendly this year some how. Could have been the weather. Definitely going next year...

    Really really bad Mpg

How full of camping gear was your van? I'd start by getting a proper mpg reading. Fill your van full of petrol (and I mean full) do a nice round trip back to the same petrol station. Try and make it normal driving and try to make it a round number in miles (makes working it out easier :) ). Then...

    Carb upgrade advice

I'd stick with a single carb every time. Twin carbs look the business and do give you more power when setup properly and there's the issue. You'll be forever having to rebalance them. If you can do this yourself then fair enough. If not then I'd recommend a good progressive single carb. Or fit a...
