    Plastic air ducts

Doing about half an hour of 55Mph on a sunny summers' day (around 25-28°C), my calibrated dipstick sensor shows my engine temps around 115°C, which is way too hot. 50Mph seems the sweet spot, letting my engine get to around 107°C. Unfortunately, driving 50 is too slow and dangerous on highways...

    Turn signal woes

So I have this turn signal switch. It does what it's supposed to when turning right - although it doesn't return automatically in off position - but the switch won't stay on when turning left. Also, I can only activate the high beam lights when activating the left turning signal., which is...

    Volkswagen surf community

Windsurfing needs lots of kit. I tow a trailer. No need to bring salty water inside the bus..

    Would you swap ?

Swap, no. Add to the fleet, yes! I wanted a split all my life. But the economical climate doesn't allow me to use a split the same way as I use my bay. Add the kids. Salt water from surfing trips and a dog. I'd freak out driving a 35000 £ split. Eventually, i fear our bays will suffer the...

    Faulty horn

Hello. I hope anyone could help me with this one. My horn stopped working all of a sudden. I went to check underneath and found Evidence A: a wire with connector And Evidence B A loose wire which fell down when checking around my steering box So I figure this must have something to do...

    BUS PRICES

That's another valid argument. Buying a fully restored bus will eventually cost you less then having someone restore the bus for you (or to do it Yourself). And yes, perhaps it's not entirely how you wanted your bus to be like, but you won't have the risk of financial headaches and you...

whats the top speed approx for a 1600 early bay

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I tried to figure out what a good cruising speed was. I tried a 200 mile trip with a stock 1600 To engine in a 7t.Westy. Doing 50, the engine purred happily on, raising the temp to 110C. Revving up to 55 raised the temp to 115C. That still wasn't enough to...

    Steering box oil/grease?

I wanted to top up the oil in my steering box. I found the little red cap all the way up, and inaccessible with a normal pouring jug. Can anyone tell this noob what tool I need for this job?

    Oil temperature

Mine (dipstick type) reads 107-110C doing 50mph on motorways.... When it's hot or if there are hills, it goes up to 115. Stock doublie port 1600 engine... Seems higher then most I came accross on the forum

fitting vertical powder extinguisher in engine bay

Based myself on the pics Amex posted to fit the firetrace system. I drilled the lip of the wheel arch to mount the bracket.

fitting vertical powder extinguisher in engine bay

So I was about to install the firetrace system in my engine bay, when a passage in the manual got my attention: I figure the melting point of the tubing must be between 80 and 100°C? I have actually no idea what the ambient temperature in my engine bay is, but opening the engine lid after...

    Towbar help please.

Mine's the busok one. I had this one installed because it is tuv certified. It would be difficult to pass the belgian MOT without this certificate.

Under-dash parcel shelf - help required

Time to bring an old topic up. I also want to fit a parcel shelf to my bus, but I'm a bit reluctant to drill the holes above the kick panel. What's the drawback of drilling there? Is there any chance of damaging something? Has anyone tried a strong glue compound instead?

New to EarlyBay ? Say Hi here ...

Another noob on the forum here. Long dreamt of a vintage camper and a couple of months ago the dream finally came true. I longed for a project, but young kids and a house resto means very little time restoring a van, So I found a restored one I can just enjoy. It's a 71 American Westy The plan...
