any one fancey the job :?: i can c that im going to have to have a go at it myself ,ive done everything else but just dont fancey this

Do it yourself. Buy some material, hardboard and a staple gun. It's the easiest job in the world.

This little lot took me about an hour including cutting all the foam, material and hardboard to size (there's three more you can't see there aswell);

and a bit of piping wouldent go a miss :lol:

any one had a go at piping and or puting ribs in?

You need to speak to an upholsteror really, piping and ribbing are not the sort of techniques your average seamstresswill have much experience of!

It's very easy to get it wrong, and when the materials are this expensive you don't want that!

Oh, and doing piping etc requires an industrial strength sewing machine and kit - you could probably do it yourself at home, but your lines probably wouldn't end up too straight!!!

;)

thats what i was thinking,i think i might have to scale down my ideas and do it myself, i think for what i want i would have to pay hundreds and im not prepaired to pay that for some seats :lol:

the ribs arent too bad but the piping is very difficult indeed as your stiching through a lot of material, what covering you using?

Agree with the above. Ribbing shouldn't be that difficult to do, but piping is a bit more involved. Perhaps you should have a go on a small offcut first to see whether it's worth taking it on yourself?

The simplest, cheapest option is to back your leatherette with a wadding material and run it through the sewing machine in parallel lines.

You can try thicker wadding for a more sumptious look.

Another method is to sew on a backing fabric in such a fashion as to provide pockets into which you stuff wadding.

Both very simple and give an impression there are other methods that get more involved and require better equipment and more skill.... :)

But test on a small spare portion till you are happy.

Where did u get your foam and what grade you using?
