Hi all, my speedo has become erratic!
It initially was working ok ish, until it become too bad. I purchased a German quality (not like the original!) from coolairvw (was about two inch shorter than than the original) and now its worse than ever?
Can anyone advise please? i don't think the the length is the problem, on full lock it appears to be long enough.
Many thanks everyone!

Might sound obvious, but did you push the square end of cable right through grease cap and put circlip on.If you did and cable turning OK it seems that the problem is at speedo head end.

Thanks Robert, I'm almost sure I did. However, the circlip has been missing for some time.

The circlip could be your problem. Inner cable sliding back up outer cable and not staying in grease cap. Hope circlip solves your problem. VW Heritage Part ID: : N0124342 .

If it turns out its not the missing circlip then its caused by excessive friction in the speedo which causes wind up in the speedo cable.

This can often be cured by lubricating the rotating part in speedo head.
