Hi All,

A sad reason for this sale, but my brother-in-law passed away and we have his beloved VW camper 'Moby'. As much as we don't want to let the camper go for sentimental reasons, none of us will use it and it would just be sitting un-loved. Therefore, we have decided to sell it in the hopes it goes to someone who will love, use and appreciate it as VW campers should be treated.
It is a 1969 RHD Dormobile camper. This camper is a RHD UK market kombi, with a sliding door on the left and in Velvet Green. It has a 1.6 engine with a manual 4-speed gearbox. The M-codes with this are:
  • 042 - Tyres approved by R&D
  • 141 - Heater outlet in rear part of cargo compartment
  • 191 - With outer and centre underfloor plates
  • 396 - Collection of M-codes for GB spec
    • 008 - Without battery
    • 020 - Speedo and odometer in Miles
    • 061 - Type labelling of seat mounting and ID plates for England
    • 196 - Asymmetrical headlights, RHD
This camper was bought back in 2007, restored in 2010, and has seen regular use since. But hasn't been used much in the last few years. Here's what was done back then:
  • The van was stripped and repainted and sealed for corrosion with a waxoil.
  • Chassis legs were replaced
  • Front beam was replaced
  • Various panels were replaced due to rust, such as:
    • Inner sills
    • Side panel sill
    • Inner front and rear wheel tubs
    • Front arch
    • Cargo floor
    • Fuel tank floor section
    • Engine bay side plates
  • Various areas were welded to repair for rust
  • Engine was stripped, heads replaced, seals replaced, new fuel lines, new spark plugs, and new clutch.
  • Steering rebuilt and various parts replaced
As always, some areas the rust has returned, so the van is not perfect. I have MoT history dating back to 1991, the original service book, and the original Dormobile brochure for it. The camper is still in its original specification from Dormobile, it has the Dormobile elevating roof with 2 glass windows, 2 vent windows and green candy-striped awning. It has a lot of storage cupboards, a cooker behind the front passenger seat, a sink (with a built-in foot pump for water feed), a built-in coolbox, a table for 4 (using 2 additional seats), space for 2 gas cylinders in the engine compartment, curtains all around, 2 upper bunks, and a bed at the back.
The camper runs well and was serviced in the middle of last year. It was taken to Wales and back last year as a final trip before we decided to sell it. MoT runs out this month, but it will be renewed before the sale. The camper is still MoT'd each year to give myself and now the buyer peace of mind that the vehicle is in good condition.

I am looking for £18,000 ONO. You are welcome to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer, although some of the history will have been lost with my brother-in-law. Viewings are welcome to serious buyers.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Was this the guy's van that used to go to Vanfest which turned into Busfest. I thinkg he lived in Nottingham or Derby.

Thanks. No, I don't think this was him as he always lived in Oxfordshire.
