For sale, my 1971 Tin Top Westy Bay.
Imported from America in 2011.

I bought my bus 2 years ago promising myself this van will be ready for the birth of my son and said that I would never sell it. But family pressures were higher than I thought and now can appreciate why so many people sell theirs after new arrivals.

This van has nearly been completely restored, as this was my intention to run this as a ‘rat’ looking bus until a full spray.

Flew through its MOT with no advisories. MOT till May 2014.
Everything has been looked, checked or replaced then checked again.
I have all paperwork and two sets of keys. I have also got the birth certificate from VW Germany.

I have spent thousands on new parts of the last 2 years. I have completed the following:

All new window sills
New rear lights
New headlights
New American style side reflectors

Interior
New flooring,
Interior side panels have been replaced, new insulation, and a faux leather charcoal grey coverings,
Passenger door sill replaced,
Sliding door sill replaced,
Wooden headliner replaced,
All electrics checked and in great working order,
New dark grey carpets in front foot wells and walk through
Sony Stereo with two front speakers, mounted in the doors.
Recondition original table.
New EMPI gear shifter.

Engine,
Full Top end rebuild. The bottom end seems in good condition. No rattles.
New (top quality) pistons heads, dizzy and spark plugs, oil filters.
Carburettor appeared new when I bought it. However this has been checked, taken apart and the float checked. All in good working order.
Oil cooler has been cleaned and again good working order,
New EMPi filler cap with breathing hose,
New Battery,
Timing has been set; this van drives and pulls very well. Starts first time and since the re build has only completed 200 miles.

Body work,
Underneath is great condition (as you would expect from America). Outriggers and under wheel arches still have protection on them.
I have replaced the battery tray however, and the read offside lower panel and parts of the near side panels, new side sills also.
There in my opinion, no further welding work required.
The van has all original paint on the inside which is chianti red
Outside has been sprayed with Savanna beige, and is starting to go Patina nicely as I wanted it to be.
The roof is good condition, white and again paint work is going Patina.
New wheels and new tyres.

Underneath:
All new suspension at front and rear,
New front disc brakes
New drum rear brakes
Servo assisted front brakes, which has been checked and works great.
Bus has been lowered by 2 splin’s at rear.
Front lowered, new condition beam with adjusters.
New EMPI exhaust.

A lot of work has gone into the bus, we have stripped it down and even taken out and cleaned the fuel tank.

Points to consider
Fuel gauge isn’t working,
Lock on the driver’s side door isn’t working with the use of key. However locks fine from the inside.
We have sprayed the replacement panels with Savannah Beige, which is close, but not quite right to whatever colour it was sprayed in America.
Small amount of further fabrication around where the rear offside wheel arch is just to tidy it up.
Now the van has settled it will need to be raised slightly, as its riding pretty low on the spring plates on the rear (I am happy to do this as would only take me a day to do, however I will lower the price to reflect this if the buyer is willing to do the work themselves)

I have played around but cant seem to add the pics I want on here????? File keeps saying its not working?????

If you contact me at [email protected] then i'm happy to send the pics I have.

I'm asking for offers in the area of £11,500, but this price is negotiable for a quick sale, or if someone wants to sort the ride height out.

Here is 2 for now,

Forgot to mention its a LHD walk through....
