We had an amazing weekend at Busfest! It was awesome meeting everyone! Despite arriving and leaving on the back of a recovery lorry and then the lorry breaking down on the way home we all still had smiles on our faces. A massive thanks to Ozzie, Nick, Claire and the dudes, and everyone else that made us feel so welcome. We could not have survived without you guys!

I managed to get Tigerlilly to a friends lockup today and began the learning process of removing the engine! So far I have discovered...

We need...

2x air filters for Carbs

2x Webber 34 single port carb gaskets to manifold

And a set of spark plug leads including kingpin.

All the engine tin has now been removed and we decided to call it a day.

Nothing too alarming as of yet....... Although further investigation continues tomorrow....

Yea the Dormy interior somehow made its way into the van by the PO. My wife finds the storage great for what we use it for... There's currently...

Bottom right cupboard: 4.5 gas canister and dual hob and grill cooker in the bottom, shelves above have cutlery, utensils and bowls/plates.

Middle: big lantern, torch, batteries,

Bottom left: candles, washing up bowl, saucepans and a spare hoodie(coat hooks at top)

Drawer: General bits and bobs.

There's also a cool box!

So more or less enough storage for the basics. Bigger stuff sits behind the rock n roll bed on the engine bay.

Finished a 10 hour shift today and headed straight to the garage. Continued the process of stripping the engine...

Only thing that we noticed when taking the right side piston head chamber? off was a small corner of aluminium casing that fell to the floor. I checked the head and this is what I found...

Any of the guys that heard the engine at Busfest think this could have caused the noise?! Ozzie, Nick?!

I'm bloody lucky if it is!! Possibly fell through the spark plug holes?

Before jumping the gun we are going to open the casing and check the big end and all the workings tomorrow anyway.

Not good news...

Shattered shell bearing and heat damage to crank shaft. Three of the con rods are also oval. Things just got expensive at least I now know what's wrong!

On the bright side I'm slowly becoming addicted to this engine rebuilding malarkey.

I heard you guys have spoken to Nick, where are you up to now then ? It looks a little more toasted than it sounded at the show. I have something up my sleeve that might make an appearance at the Octoberfest so hurry up and get sorted bud. Our "Cross dresser" Devon/Dormy TigerLilly has had her innards sprawled across the garage floor...

Right... Deep breath....

I'm doing a rebuild myself.
Most of the parts are in very good condition. However, the shells have damaged the con rods and the crank. So they need replacing. Funds are tight at the moment as the misses thinks gingham curtains and pretty bits are an essential bit of kit as apposed to a fully functional engine...

On the bright side...


Good parts found...

New mahle flat Piston heads
New valves
New mahle cylinders
New twin port cylinder heads
Rocker covers in good condition
Cam shaft and rocker shafts are new in very good condition
Heavy duty steel pushrods and performance pushrod tubes are good too.
Oil cooler is good
Oil pump and cover is new
Twin 34 webers are good

Parts that need replacing...

Con rods
Crank shaft
Shell bearings
Full engine gaskets & seals

Then we'll be good to go!

Oktoberfest look out!

Well...

Fear not!! Despite an insane amount of work hours being put into.... Ummm.... Work. I have actually managed to get down the garage and crack on with the rebuild just a little bit. Here are some pics...

My "friend" thought it would be funny to put a turtle on the front... It's not staying there!! Engine tinware is being blasted and resprayed!

And that's where we are now!

Much loves to Ozzie and Nick. I can't thank these guys enough. I literally wouldn't have gotten further than the scrap yard if it wasn't for these guys!

We have also had to move the bus to a new garage, along with all the engine bits and a few other vehicles...

Plus tools, etc etc... but it wasn't too far away. Thankfully.

Unfortunately, however, the other vehicles don't belong to me! They are still great motivation though!


The run up to Christmas is a very busy time for me, I've been unable to spend any time on the engine of late however, everything so far sounds and feels good! The next step is running the engine on a bench and making a few adjustments. More photos will follow, no doubt! [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Not that you need it,,,,,,,,, but well done bud. That is looking most excellent. I know so well that a project too long can be a project that don`t get finished, So!!!! keep at it,, you is almost there,,, and we`ll all hook up in the spring and summer and do what we do so very well,, eat,,,,, drink,,,,, and chat bollocks You`ll maybe hook up with more of my ```Clan``` next year :shock: Is this a good thing ???? or maybe not ??? :lol:

Keep it up and good luck with engine, been there this year but not as bad as splitting case etc :shock:
