Hi
I have a 70 Tintop 1600 Single port
This is the problem. When the Engine is warm she runs really well with no problems. The Timing, Valves and Carb have all been adjusted. The problem is Cold starting, if I connect the Electrical hook up to the choke and set it on any of the marks on the side of the electric choke the engine runs like a pig or stalls on me. I have checked the inside of the carb to see if the choke flap is sticking but no problems there? Am at a loss as to what it might be as it`a a pain in the **** in the morning revving the engine till she`s warm till it will idle by itself.
Can any body offer advice.

Cheers Guys
Ian

Have you taken off the heating element to make sure it hasn't broken inside? It may have come off the cam pin.

You need to first take the choke off (3 screws) then comfirm the lug engages the pin that moves the choke flap, then reinstall when cold and turn to the marks, now look down and see if the flap is fully closed when you open the throttle and the fast idle cam moves round to cause the idle screw to rest on a higher position. If this all works then connect the 12v to the choke and run the engine, after a while the choke should return to the normal fully open position.

Is it possible that you have a 6V choke fitted? I guess this would heat up too quickly on a 12V system.

What air filter are you running, if stock do you have the hot air tube fitted this is the one which pulls air from the rh cylinder head on warm up there is a flap in the air intake that closes as the thermostat open the pre heat flaps in the fan housing.

The choke on its own wont hold the butterfly closed in the carb for long enough, and if you set the choke to hold this on longer it never fully opens and shafts your fuel economy.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the advice.
Am running an "Aftermarket air cleaner" and havent as yet had a look at the electric coil element (how can you tell if it is a 6 volt rather than 12)?

Will pull the choke and have a look and see whats what.
Will keep you posted.

Regards
Ian

Usually has 6 or 12V cast on the surface if its a solex.

Im not sure if the 28 pict 2 is a splitty carb I thought the first bays were fitted with 30 pict 1's but not positive about this, this is why I suggested it may be a 6V choke.
