I've recently got some twin carbs, but they don't fit past the 1600 TP fan housing, i'm thinking a 30 HP fan housing is the way forward (annoyingly) as i'd had the original painted.

Anyone got a discount code for cool air or have one they don't need?

The imitation 30 hp fan housings I have seen lack some or all the internal fins that control and direct the air flow and the worst of them have no provision for the thermostat flaps either.

Real 30hp shrouds are too small, they don't accommodate the larger fan and dog house oil cooler required for the larger 1600 engine.

Hence why I "modify" a stock shroud with a little mild hammering. IDFs only require a few extra mm. (no choke).

thanks trikky, i'll take another look today, i could bandsaw the ends off the original then rivet some beer cans over the edge i suppose, i'll figure something out. Are the thermostat flaps etc important? I've taken them out in the past.. I guess the oil heats a bit slower with the fan on full whack?

Just the same as a water cooled car - if you take out the thermostat, the engine is over cooled most of the time and will not reach operating temperature.

The highest rate of engine wear occurs on cold engines.

If we could have got away with not having a thermostat we would have saved ourselves the time and cost of fitting them during production.

you can mod original 30HP shroud for wide fan (still no provision for flaps though, but it can be also done. You can modify new 30HP style shroud for correct flaps. If you buy Scat brand, there are all important fins.
