3000 service small hicup!

Service done today, popping sound is now slightly worse than it was.

First tappets done cold.
New leads
New rotor
New plugs

Warm engine and dump oil

Replace oil and oil in air filter.
Start engine no coil to get pressure.
Replace coil connection .
Start engine.

Runs no problem , did not touch timing.
Popping now a little worse.

Any suggestions please

No back firing just sounds like an intermittent pop pop pop then nothing then pop then nothing then
another pop pop and so on. Don't know how else to describe it . Sorry

Have not touched timing and has not moved from mark.
Admittedly this is the PO setting but it has always been perfect.
A while ago I bought a co machine and thought I would give it a try.
Reset the carb and warmed the engine up. Set the co machine to 2.0% as instructed.
Put the pipe in place and would you credit it it was 1.8 so altered the mixture till 2.0 reading.

Sounds a lot better. Am going to give Boris a run this afternoon and will report back.
Hopefully the storm will pass that is now here. Fingers crossed.

So .................... result of the trip out after all the fiddling.
Well, loaded our neighbours and Pip and set off for West Bay Dorset





There and back and no problems incurred. Redoing the carb seems to have lessened the popping noise.
Quite possible it had been to rich. Now just need to take it to the local garage to check the co readings next to my machine. Did not smell any hotter going and or on arrival so fingers crossed.

Thanks for the input and will give one more result of garage machine test. Just wish I had enough knowledge to look at the plugs and tune by sight and sound.
