Need a bit of help if poss.Im going to have a look at a 1970 US import deluxe tommorow 8) .The man im buying(possibly)it from tells me that the sunroof has been removed due to water leaking in which has caused corrosion. Something about drain tubes blocked :?: . The more i read about these sunroofs the more a common problem they seem to be.Told me he has all the parts to refit it.My questions are 1 are they easy enough to refit? 2 Are there any hidden points that could be rusted out that i should check.3 Do the roofes on these busses just slide back when un clipped or is it a winder handle(sort of wormwheel set up) ive had a uk model for a few years and spent most of my lime welding on panels and sold it due to more n more rust turning up every time i go near it  .To you experienced deluxe owners,is this bus gonna be another dead loss?Im a mechanic of 18 years so am pretty handy with tools but dont want to spend my life welding. The rest of the bus is rock solid(so im told)so il bring it home tomorrow subject to you forum members wisdom. Thanks :D ps want my next bus for keeps,so thinking long term

Looked at a sun roof bus myself a few years ago with similar issues. These roors open with a winding handel which operates the roof via 2 cables, and here lays the problem. The cables are not available to my knowlage anymore and when they do crop up are quite costly.
The cables and the drain holes are the 2 main failing points.

i'm a sun roof man and i was scared to touch it at first, they are not to bad to work on once you know how just takes time to sus it out.

the guys on here have been my life line on this lol with out the knowlege on here it would still be shut.

cables are still out there

these guys sell them and great service, be careful though the cables are fragile as it's a big lump of mental to slide along, i sadly had mine snapped with some one forcing mine closed before i had things lined up and snapped my new ones .
the felt seal, waste of money there is a post here a few days ago from mike who had a new method and miles cheaper..

any more and i'ii try and help 8)
