Hi all

I'm seriously looking at a '72 Westfalia (front hinged roof), but I'm confused over the sleeping capacity.

I've been told that the roof area can only take a child (65lb limit). Yet I've read of others who say you can put a double bed i the roof. Anyone got one of these who could comment?

Thanks.

The original upper bunk style bed only holds a child or a skiny person, the same with the front over the seats childs cot bed, so that bus sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids.

You can get a hold of a double bed and you could fit 2 adults in the roof.

It's been done as there was a post on this a few days ago - myself and others are always on the lookout for the double bunk to fit in our US westy's - from what I recall, the US westie only had a single bunk in the poptop, but UK buses between 1972 - 1973 (so later bays with front hinged poptops) had the double bunk, which makes it quite a rare item, and this is the one that's needed to convert

My plan of things to do is fabricate the bunk if I'm unable to find one for sale

Thanks.

Has anyone out there actually fitted an adult bed in the roof of a front hinged Westie?

I've recently done it:

It fits well, would make for a small double bed for two people, preferably not too long or heavy
