Hi,

been a long while since I trod the boards of the VW forums {work has been mad busy for a few years now & just don't seem to have the time} anyways,

I have a 1971 Westfalia {Campmobile, Cali import} that has just had some bodywork done and a nice shiny new coat. My wife has decided she's like the inside spruced up a bit has original interior {but looking a bit tired these days}

We removed the coolbox from the unit and want to put in a 3 way fridge but cannpot decide which fridge. I'd appreciate any views & recommendations.

also, where is the best place to buy?

Likelihood is that we will replace the interior over the winter months and are prepared to buy a slightly bigger fridge than the RM123 30 litre fridge Dometic does and have a new unit built around it.

thanks for any useful advice.

cheers.

Hi

We have a Dometic RM4210 3 way and very pleased with it. We either got it from

http://obrienscamping.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or

http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and as the advert says, it's surprising how much you can fit in it with a little planning. Like most fridges it will eat your battery on 12v but very efficient on 240 and gas

three way in a lefty is an issue with venting for gas, it's ok if you have hook up everywhere you go so you an run 240v, the only other option is a marine with low draw. engel make one that will fit exactly in the old cool box hole but not cheap, this what we have in ours

Do you still have your chiller? Mines rather tired looking and it has a small hole in it!

I intend putting in a new interior over the winter months and will make sure the new layout gets the fridge vented properly {it's unlikely to be fitted before then}

have ordered the RM4210 from O'Briens camping £435 delivered.

Sorry, I threw the coolbox out when I removed it but the unit it stood in is ok {minus the flipover top though}

Try as I might, I am not sure what you mean.

The only thing I can think of is the vent would be on the kerbside, is this an issue, or have I totally missed the point & I am having a very dim moment :shock:

Good choice! :D Shout if you have problems. You might ewant to think about geting a length of flexible (ribbed) copper pipe for the flue from B&Q. The plain end fits snugly over the flue outlet.

It's probably been covered before but can you route the fridge flue via the vent pipe that goes from the sink unit through the roof on the westy ? Probably some obvious reason why but I would like to fit a 3 way fridge in mine in the original location rather than cutting a hole in the side of the bus.
