I've started doing some work on my n/s front door and would like to get a more even gap around the door at the moment it is almost rubbing the front panel and there's quite a gap at the lock

what's the best way to adjust this ? does it need packing behind the hinge ?
I'm probably going to take the door off as I need to weld in a small area of the door bottom.
Any advice gratefully accepted, cheers Nick.

I recently adjusted mine and found it to be a PITA to be honest. My tips would be:

1. Have a mate take the weight whilst you adjust the hinges. The doors are soooo heavy.
2. When slightly loose, the hinges can be adjusted in all directions to get the right fit. Trial and error seems to be the only way to get it right.
3. Adjust one hinge at a time.
4. Use an impact driver to lock the bolts tight once you have them in position.
5. Once the door is nicely central in the opening, the catch will probably be 'out'. Its a bugger to get just so.
6. Keep the kids out of the way so that when you swear, they won't hear you.

Don't want to teach grandma to such eggs though.
