Hi All

Trying to fit a 12v socket in my dash. Had a quick scoot around online and sounds simple enough connecting it to a spare 16a for power and then earthing it somewhere.

Where can you get hold of suitable electrical wiring??

Cheers

Halfords, Maplins, eBay, any motor factors should stock it :)

I shall visit halfrauds at lunch! Should you get a slighter higher amp cable than you need or is 16 OK for the outlet?

Yeah, probably fine.
Technically it depends what you're planning on running from it... 16A at 13V (average 12V battery voltage, annoyingly) is 208W (compare that to your intended appliance). Fine for most stuff, to tell the truth if you go much higher you won't be able to run the engine at the same time. If you've got a dynamo that'll only put out about 25A at full chat anyway.

Fuses should always be rated at lower than your cable is! Take the highest appliance rating you plan on running, make sure your fuse is the next rating up, and then your cabling is at least rated above your fuses capacity.
