Hello everyone,

I am in need a bit of advice and your opinion on a 1968 Van/Camper that I've found for sale. I am currently living out in Cyprus, where I have found the Van. The van has a new reconditioned 1600 A/C engine it starts and runs fine, the gear box seems fine up and down the box with no issues, brakes are very spongy but that's what I'm lead to believe is almost the norm. The Van has some surface rust and will require some welding to the under carriage and floor. Iv got some pics that id be happy to email anyone interested in helping me as I cant seem to upload them to the site. The asking price is £3,500 and any advice/help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Wilky

Drum brakes should not be spongy! If in tip top condition they are very good so I expect it has a shot wheel cylinder or something and is drawing in air. £3500 for the condition you say its in isn't that bad but a picture is more helpful tbh. To upload pics you will need a photobucket account.

have you driven this van ?have you owned one before ? have to ask otherwise i and perhaps other well meaning people could swamp you wiv info/advice you dont need .

Iv not owned one before but iv had a test drive iv had a T4 for a short time before moved to Cyprus i know that has no berring on owning a classic VW. All i know is what iv read and researched on line. Think iv managed to upload some photos now

Thanks

bus looks ok to me except for the boat windows.......brakes are a pretty easy fix and your better off rebuilding them because its pretty inexpensive and its good to get to know your bus, as long as its solid being from cyprus it should be, i think its good value. take a magnet to it and check everywhere for filler

from experience ! (i wish i had done this ) buy john muirs " how to keep you voltswagen alive....an idiots guide .." and read section on buying a bus .note that some parts are practically no longer available ,only recon ,and/or recon your own, i.e. for my own bus the steering box (expensive) do you intend to stay where you are (CYPRUS) and is it correct they require no annual mot there?

john muirs " how to keep you voltswagen alive....an idiots guide .."

Ill look into this now thanks. The mot system in Cyprus is once every 2 year and also its not as stringent as the UK

thanks again everyone
