After Market Ignition Switch

Looking for some opinions regarding after market ignition siwtches. I am fitting a new one which I have sourced from C&C and was surprised that there is so much plastic in the construction. I don't recall exactly the OEM unit but I thought it had a metal casing - and not plastic.

See as is the part was quite a job to remove I want to make sure it is done properly just once, are these aftermarket units reliable and worth using or should I source an original piece?

I doubt anything aftermarket will be anything as good as OG so I would go OG

My 71s original one I took out was VW stamped and was plastic. I replaced it with a plastic one and its been OK for a year.

Having said that, despite mostly selling cheap crap, it looks like GSF stock metal ones :shock:

Thanks do you have a link to that item at GSF please. I pit in my reg and it returned what looks like a Golf switch!

I think they differ between years.

I bought one from GSF for my '71, and I'm sure it was plastic as per the original. It's been fine for about 5 years now

I wonder if all 71 onwards are plastic?

Wouldn't bother with the REG searches for classics either, not very accurate

I've just got one from gsf they do plastic and metal will see if I can find part number later
