A friend of mine just suggested a completely different route. to upgrade performance...I know I know I´m going to get spanked for this ;) , but how about fitting an ALFA engine? He´s fitted one in his beetle after a lot of hard work, but when he saw the space in the engine bay(no pun!) :D he started winding me into it....yeah, it´s not aircooled any more, but with a 1700cc injected engine you can get 100 bhp on tap easily, and if you go the 16v route we could be talking 140ponies...ummmm! that sounds interesting ...ok, so what do all the gurus out there think?
ps I also know that there are people out there fitting subaru engines...but they are more expensive and rare to find(and we aren´nt talking also about spares)

The bastard love child of A Hitler and Mussolini

How about a mazda 13B rotary conversion kenedy engineering make a conversion plate.

some guy near me was selling a late bay with a citroen / peugout diesel engine!! i think it was something he knocked together himself. Gave it a miss!

This panel has an Alfa 33 engine... Looks very nice. Maybe drop him a PM...?

anything is possible...Alfa is a bit of a dated conversion but still a worthwhile upgrade from the lawnmower engine originally fitted.
