Shes got a right face on and i need some help before it becomes my fault and i know its only a mateer of time

if you are able to log on the computer with your password this could help you
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Is it letting you log in as the admin account?
Normally there is that option isn't there? if not, try hitting F8 during the startup, that sould get you into safe mode.

I'll ask one of the geeks at work if that doesn't work or is no help

Tried the F8 route..................no joy
Tried the ctrl, alt, del x2 and admin in password and that wont let me in either.

looks like a restore disk download.

Hi

On initial start up as windows is booting up you need to press F8, this will then give you 3 options one of them being 'start windows in safe mode', once you have done this the PC should boot without the need for the admin password.

You can then change the password or remove it and then start the PC normally

i have a disk that will allow you to reset the password from boot. it wont affect any files etc just changes the admin username or password.

Let me know if your still stuck i can send you a copy with instructions on how to.

if you can, download a copy of Austrumi Recovery CD (google it) and create as a bootable cd. boot from this and you can reset the admin password (best to reset to blank) and then login and reset user password. This may be what Jonny is referring to. Not sure if still available tho.

Alternatively have a look at this link and try some of the methods there. I think the Petter Nordahl-Hagen's Offline NT Password & Registry Editor is poss the best one having played with a few of these

Cheers folks, that F8 thing dosent do anything on her computer so im going to download a copy of that recovery disk and give that a try. Thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone.

Along similar lines but slightly different..............

We've just inherited a couple of computers at work which have already been setup on another network with user passwords. All I want to do is access them so that we can re-jig them for our selves so although I'm not worried about retaining any files that may be on them I do need the operating system to remain intact.

I don't have the original boot discs, op system is XP. I tried the disc thing suggested above but unfortunately that didn't work.

Any ideas on how I can reset the original factory settings without a boot disc?

hmm that's a little more tricky!
assuming by no boot disk you mean you have no disk with the XP operating system (OS) on ?
couple of questions:
Are the pcs a major brand (eg Dell/ HP) and do they have a sticker with the XP product code on? If they are/ there is the sticker then chances are they are OEM (original equipment manufacturer) and if you try and use that product code with a non-OEM disk it will tell you where to go! If you have a retail version/copy of XP I can tell you how to create a bootable cd and send you the necessary files.
Secondly, if the pcs were on a network, do you what type of network - ie workgroup or domain? I'm guessing domain in which case you can still log into the local admin account and then remove the pc from the domain. Once in as local admin and disjoined from domain you can do what you like.
Is this any use? If so then either pm me or reply to this and I'll tell you more instructions but don't want to type a long message if it's no use
