should i get rid of my heat exchangers???????
i'm carrying out a restoration at the moment and thinking about the exhaust system to fit to my rebuilt engine.
Although the heat exchangers i have are original (going by the size of the fins inside) the skins around them are well gone. at the minute i have a piece for generic flexi heater hose running from the exchanger to the Y tube. therefore, no riser, no control box and no confluted hose on either side.
a new system would therefore cost approx £390
two heatexchangers = £240
two control boxes = £75
two heater risers = £50
two confluted pipes = £25
in replace of the heat exchangers i would have J tubes coming down to fit onto my exchaust manifold, giving me a less restrictive engine. what has been suggested then in removing the Y tube and the heater channel that runs under the centre belly pan. then where the heater channel goes through the cross member beam fit my propex into here. that way i can still have heat up to the windscreen or pointing backwards between the two front seats. I already have a pretty much brand new propex HS2000 (2kW).
Just wondered if anyone has done this. i'm quite keen to do it, especially if the propoex will fit under the van, bewteen the floor and the belly pan
