hi am planning to buy an early bay westy sometime in the future. i have a 10 week baby and was wondering if anybody has fitted a car seat in the back of a westy. my wife does not want it to be fixed with just the lap belt.a
any help will be be useful many thanks

i fitted one but used a modern 3 point belt.only thing is,if you fit one of these you need to extend the bracket so the belt reaches over the back of the seat.there seems to me a race on from a few suplyers to make and supply these, but i think the saftey testing is a big stumbler as no one will sell them without, they dont want to get there ***** sued if they fail.

i made my own and and if youre confident in doing a bit of metal work im sure you could do the same without too much trouble.

it took me a couple of hours to make and install 2 of them in my bus.and cost nothing as the amount of steel you need is minamal.

Also interested in these brackets. Any pics??

Hi!
I had the same problem when my first was born last November.. I got round it this year by installing a T4 3-point seatbelt for the fornt passenger seat (T4 because it was the only one long enough to go rond the rear facing seat).

I got a new problem now.. Baby number 2 is due in 5 weeks time and as it stand I can't carry two child seats in my bus.... :(

Rear 3-point seat belt bracket needed here too, but like so many on here, I can't find anyone who produces it due be being scared of litigation...

Surely the demand means that the cost of testing could be comfotably amortised over the first few hundered sets or something...

im suprized someone isent selling shelving brackets ;) ;) ;)

and if someone were to take it on them selfs to use them as seatbelt mounts then that would be up to them.

when you think there are people out there selling wheel adapters on ebay with no safty checks you really wouldent thing they would hold of on making these

we use a three point modern retractable seat belt on the rock n roll bed, yes the shoulder strap sits low, but for smaller kids seats doesnt seem to be a problem, might be different when he gets a bit older.

It can be done very safely and without any major modification. I fitted three point belts from Heritage, carefully preserving the originals ;) . A Westy will already have the mounting points for three point belts behind the rock and roll bed. As Baz was saying, the rear one is a bit lower than normal, but it secures my three year old's seat very safely. My 7 year old has a three point belt mounted for the jump seat, so everyone is happy, apart from my wife who refuses to sit in the front of my LHD bus because "it seems a bit weird and not very safe"

sorry not good quality pics.my camera internal batry has died.and my i phone cameras flash has packed up.

Not useless buddy. A bit blurry but you get to see what it is all about. I dont suppose you want to make me one of those shelving brackets ( ;) ) for a price do you!!

I run a 3 point on one side and lapbelt on the other. Use the existing mounting bolts as mentioned for the 3 point. I replaced the front seatbelts with inertia types.

My eldest is 2 and her seat works with just a lapbelt by design (Britax make it). My youngest is still in a baby seat and it just fits in the van, I had to make a small extender under the seat to get some more length on the belt to get her seat in. On my Fasty the seat does not fit using the retractable belts due to not having the length so you may need to knock something together.

My worry is not the belt but all my stuff flying around the van in the event of a crash, especially coming over the back seat onto the baby seat in the event of a front end smash...

You will make it work for you when it comes to it, some people have been quite creative running 3x 3-point belts across a full width rear by putting in anchor bars and all sorts.

Thank you very much for all your help. At one point I had given up hope on owning a bus. A vauxhall zafira just not the same. :p
