hey all

hows the battery secured in a early bay???

just noticed mine has never been bolted in, but can't see any place for it to be bolted on the battery tray??

any ideas??

cheers 8)

There should be a rail in the back of the tray that the battery bottom lip engages. Then theres a bracket that holds the front of the battery. The bolt goes through the bracket and into a captive nut on the underside of the tray.

You can just buy a strap to hold it in. It is actually an MOT failure if its not secured

got a bit of wood wedging mine in! dont thinks its factory though!

Have you stolen mine? I have a correct clamp for the starter battery but not on the leisure battery, it has a cunning piece of oak holding it in

Got away with that one last year then......it's just the special non slip rust effect surface on the tray that stops our battery sliding about.

I'd like to get a leisure battery fitted on the other side but I'm a bit worried it would just fall through

somone in the past has moved the car battery over to the n/s and fitted the leisure battery on the o/s.

Car battery is not fixed in and has passed the mot for the past few years like it  my friend who was an mot tester now an AA man keeps moaning everytime he sees it about it not being fixed in. One of them jobs on the list to do.

Fitted a 120amp leisure battery and it fitted in the battery tray snug as a bug. Wedged in there tight. A real pain in the rear when it comes to getting it out to charge have to remove the filter unit.
Was concerned about the weight of the battery, kept on seeing images of the battery falling through the floor going down the motorway, so i had a pair of support brackets welded on the underside.
Bought from wickes a wall/ roof tie bar bent and cut to shape.

these guys sell battery clamp down kits , theyre not vw items just a universal one , you get an angle clamp strip and 2 tie down rods for £2-42 +vat Ref: 8775 (page 15 catologue) http://www.vehicleproducts.co.uk Tel: 0115 930 5454 .
fitting it would mean drilling 2 holes in the battery tray and jobs done , get your battery tied down 8)

For the first 2 years of owning the camper the main battery was sat on a piece of wood because it only had half a battery tray underneath  Wasn't secured and passed MOT's.

The leisure battery isn't strapped down but it is so heavy and it's kinda wedges under the spare wheel well so doesn't go anywhere!

My starter battery is also wedged in with a block of wood, and my leisure battery held by its own weight!

I wonder if anyone has ever failed due to not having a battery anchored properly...? Anyone?
