Has anyone removed the foam from a early bay dash so it’s bare metal? More importantly has anyone done it with the dash in situ as I don’t fancy taking mine out at the moment but the foam is all cracked and nasty especially by the switches.

Cheers, I've seen the slots and quite like the look of them with some mesh or material behind.
It'd be interesting to know if I can remove the stuff without taking the whole dash out.

You can but ALL the factory switch holes will be visable as well as the side slots and a large hole below the radio cut out.
The sticky tape used is also not easy to clean.

I did mine on a 68, it had extra switch holes and switch holes for RHD . Nothing else was different

I’ll probably just attack it sometime then and for the extra holes make some ally feature plates for in the switch recess bits. It’s gotta look better than all the cracks!!
Thanks guys.

For anyone interested I’ve pulled off the foam with the dash in the van and it was pretty easy. I’ve got to repair a bit of it with the welder as when someone in the past fitted a head unit they ripped the metal!
It’ll then need filler and paint but easy really.
I’m tempted to try and fit a double din head unit but this will mean modifying the ash tray at least!
