Beam end plates

Does anyone supply ready cut beam end plates for a 69. Or even a drawing with measurements. For a diy narrowing. I apologize if this has been asked before.

Did you find it risky welding near the needle bearing area due to the thickness of tube wall ?

should be ok as long as you take the bearings out

I've just seen Creatives mk 2 beam. Looks a bit chunky round the bearing area, now weighing up the options :? Suppose I could get some money back on my original beam if I sold it. Not sure what it's worth though.

Can tell you it's a hell of a lot of work building one.

Do you weld beam tubes both sides ? What about the stabiliser and tie rods. Is it possible to cut rods and re thread ?

You need to purchase another adjustable tie rod a you can't shorten the solid one, then you can cut down the right hand threaded ends after first tapping the deeper.

Yes plates are welded both sides, I also regret not putting a strengthener plate in behind to so would recommend doing that also.

Here's how I built mine from a scrap beam, its not a bad job but cleaning off the old ends etc is pretty ******.

Where do you recon it needs strengthening ? I just went through your thread again, how's yours doing. You did a good job of getting the dents out I might need a few pointers, wait till you see mine

Cheers, Trust me that vans a long story!! As far as paint and body goes. :roll:

Some builders put a plate (1-2" piece I flat bar etc) in between the tubes behind the end plate, I've seen them with and without and don't really know why I didn't fit them. I can't remember if they interfered with grease points or the servo mount or something like that.

It won't do any harm it not being fitted though.

Were the needle rollers any good to use again ? You must be able to knock out the center fixed adjuster completely from the tube.

From memory it reused 3 of the 4 as I mullered on getting it out, but yes they were reused.

Not sure what you mean about the adjusters, they do come out the beam but don't think they would come out of a standard beam end as they are tight anyway and there are inner bearings/bushes in the tube for the control arms.

If your narrowing you can remove them once you cut the beam, it's one of them jobs that's harder to explain than do as it's self explanatory when its in front of you.

Plenty of scrapped beams about, buy one and use that. That way your not destroying you original beam if it all goes tits up.
