I've decided to resist the twin urges to lower and to add alloys (well the bank manager decided for me). I'm going to keep my van very stock but I fancy cheering up my wheels with some of those alluminium slotted type beauty rings. They seem to be easy to get for 15" wheels but 14" seem hard to find. Anybody know of anybody who sells them? Stainless steel would be fine too if they had the same look.

They should be solid on early bays

Thanks for those links Clem but when you say "should be " do you mean there is a technical reason like slotted ones won't fit or just that a proper stock look would have solid ones? My van is a 72 crossover but didn't the wheels change in 71?

Sorry to come back with more questions but I like the look of those slotted fellas!

My slotted small 5s have solid beauties too, I've not seen slotted rings.... theres very little metal to run slots and coupled with the slots of the wheel may look a bit wierd

Thanks for the replies but there are a couple of things confusing me. First aren't my wheels narrow 5s if my van is after 71? Second the rings I mean go from the hubcap to the rim so the wheel's holes are covered. I think VW heritage sell them but only for 15" and there are some on ebay but again for 15".

Right see what your looking at...the bigger wheel may well carry them off indeed have the space for them.....

1) Yes, narrow five stud pattern came in with front servo assisted disc brakes in 71.
2) Your looking at beetle beauty rings so they will all be 15" Bay beauty rings fit round the rim, leaving the part of the wheel with the holes in exposed between the ring and the hubcap.

thats rather cool!

ordinary flaps are pish!, always coming off at motorway speeds, but these look super cool and could be used on low profile tyres as well 8)

If you do decide to order and want to split carrage costs - let me know! I may fancy some of those too. I had been looking for a while (hence me posting the pic in the first place) and having just bought some new hub caps, it'll finish it off nice. Need to paint the wheels and put some more clips on mine first, lost 2 hub caps already!

Can't believe it! after much perving over the pics and a few ebay sales I decided to buy at lunchtime today. Didn't click though because I wanted to check if my sister, who lives in Holland could bring them over sometime soonish and I wanted to contact you to share postage if she couldn't or to offer a freebie if she could. Couldn't get her on the phone so went back on to check postage and the trims have gone!

Lesson learnt- if it's shiny and you like it so do other people so buy it fast

I don't like the idea of them, when I'm ready for tyres I'm going to save up for proper whitewall radials from northhantstyres.com

They appear to be able to get hold of proper wide white wall radials in 14 and 15" which is what caught my attention.
No idea of price, might be worth ringing up.
