Fitted a Berg shifter today, it come with two square spacer, problem I had was it didn't feel like it was going into 2nd or 4th, and it was going into reverse without using the button on the shifter.

There was two plates, but bolts wasn't long enough to use the larger of the two spacers

I know every one raves about Berg shifter, and I drove a Bug with one the other day with one fitted and I was impressed with it, any ideas what I'm doing wrong??? Standard shifter back in place.

As you can see with the larger spacer there is not much thread left to bolt into the floor, is it as simple as just using longer bolts and larger spacer?

Thanks

You need to use the shift plate supplied with the shifter. Standard plate won't work. If you don't have one contact Al at Berg and he will send one out to you relatively quick. About 20 quid posted from memory. Also those square plates don't look like anything Berg make. Are you sure they aren't fabricated? I'd be contacting whoever sold you that shifter.

From looking at the photos you've got all the right stuff, just you shouldn't need those homemade square spacers. If you fit the berg plate upside down it won't lock out reverse.

If you PM your email I can send you the fitting manual that comes with the shifter

The stock shift plate will not work as mentioned above. He needs this. http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?cPath=478&products_id=2380" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And he is missing this. http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?cPath=478&products_id=3041" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Best to contact Gene Berg to see exactly what you need for your shifter.

Check out the pics on my thread here, when I fitted my own Gene Berg Shifter - hope it helps
